ABC talks about the SUP Mum's a free SUP Program

Mums having fun on Stand Up Paddle Boards
Head down to creeks (Currumbin or Tallebudgera creek) Gold Coast at any time of day and you’re almost guaranteed to see at least one stand up paddler on the water. But there’s so many more people out there who would love to give it a go, but just haven’t had the push they needed.

So Surfing QLD started a program called SUP Mums, which is a free initiative run in conjunction with the Queensland Government. It’s aimed at getting new Mums on the water, introducing the sport of stand up paddling because it’s not only an amazing hobby to be involved in, but also great for fitness and getting outside.

Emma Flett organizes the program, and this week spoke to Peter Scott on ABC Radio about what goes on at the free stand up paddling sessions.

“It’s all about getting mums back into physical activity. Often mums after they have kids, everything becomes about the kids and they forget about themselves. So it’s a great opportunity to get out there, make some new friends, it’s social, it’s great exercise and it’s something that a lot of people (you hear the words all the time) ‘I’ve always wanted to do it’. What an opportunity, it’s free, you just turn up with your hat, your water bottle and get involved.”

It’s a great little interview and really shows the stoke that stand up paddlers have for their sport. Check out the stand up paddling interview here on the ABC website.
