French paddler's sea trials for Atlantic crossing
A french stand up paddler has just spent five days paddling the Mediterranean during sea trials of his ocean-going stand up paddle board. Think 5 days is a long to spend on a board? Try 75 days! Nicolas Jarossay is planning to stand up paddle his way from America to Africa in 2016, a distance of more than 5000km. To achieve his goal, Nicolas had to design a custom board of course. Shaped like a Starboard Ace that's been hitting the gym too hard, this custom shaped stand up paddle board features a section in the nose where he can sleep at night. Also carrying all the supplies he needs to make the crossing, like a desalinator for water, freeze dried food, navigation equipment and spare parts, this stand up paddle board will weigh in excess of 200kg! Of course he'll have a support boat tagging along for safety, and you can be sure the attention of many-a-coastguard along the way. It's all happening sometime next year, so if you're interested in following Nicolas on his extraordinary stand up paddling adventure, check out his website.
