TassieSUP Winter Sup Classic in Tasmania: Report

It happens every year, in the middle of winter and whoever thought of holding it in Tasmania is a genius. Because they kinds of people who would go to such an event are seriously fun to hang around, just check out the stand up paddling forum thread if you don’t believe us.
So after months (literally, months!) of hilarious build up, friendly banter and cheeky puns, the Tasmanian SUP Surfing Championships went down in pumping 2 to 5ft left and rights at sunny, offshore Roaring Beach. Event organisers TassieSUP report:
“The surf was pumping all day with occasional close outs, challenging paddlers ability to stay in the take off areas. By days end the guys and girls were fairly warn out after many rounds of bashing back out through the line up to the take off points.
There was a great air of enthusiasm and cooperation in the line up with free surfers and the SUP crew for helping to create a great beach set up and carry the gear in and out at the end of the comp. Many thanks to STAS Head Judge Karl Gol and the great sponsors including the Lufra Hotel/Apartments for hosting the presentations.”
Hats off to everyone who made the effort to head down south at a time where most of us are looking overseas for a SUP fix in the warmer climates! Results are below, and there’s Part 1 of a video too.
