The Epidemiology of Injuries in SUP - Ever been injured whil

"To date, there is no published data specific to injuries associated with the sport of SUP."
For many stand up paddlers, the sport isn't exactly high risk. What's going to happen when youre paddling around the bay with your dog on the nose? But for those paddlers who are racing or surfing, the risk of injury is high.

Just how high though? Nobody knows, because SUP is such a new sport. Nobody has put their hand up to survey the stand up paddlers of the world to find out such information - until now. Bond University on the Gold Coast has just raised their hand high, taking on the task of asking us, asking you! What injuries you've sustained while paddling.

The research is going to help a few different groups, because within the survey is also some basic questions about what kind of paddling you're doing, and how often. It also gets into the nitty gritty associated with any injuries you might have had, from as minor as a bruise, to as major as an amputation.

"At present Stand-up Paddle Boarding (SUP) is an under-researched recreational and sports activity that has grown exponentially world wide. To date, there is no published data specific to injuries associated with the sport of SUP. Therefore, the aim of this research is to investigate injury locations, types and mechanisms within SUP."

Bond University is situated right in the heart of Aussie stand up paddling on the Gold Coast. With several of the countries most popular surf and flat water spots within a short drive, the non-for-profit Uni is keeping their resources within sports that are practiced locally, and promises to continue research into the Epidemiology of Injuries in SUP as the sport continues to grow.
