It wasn't that badly crashed. He had it fixed. I got to reminiscing. On google maps, i'm still amazed at what the internet can do. The armco is still there. Probably still collecting paint.

And of course I forgot the gearboxes! Who remembers the 3 speed boxes with no synchro on first we had to put up with well into the 60s. When Alphas had an all synchro 5 speed boxes from way back.

159? I think we're all over long, low and swoopy 4 door sedans that try and hark back to a Le Mans racer. Passengers don't like being driven fast. That's why 2wd SUVs are taking over. Better packaging, comfy upright seating.

Who cares about the passenger??????????? These cars are for the driver!

Alfas, love them or hate them but I love my 159 where else can you get 3.2 litre V6, a little over 200Kw, all wheel drive in something the size of a 323. Part that amazes me is how many dumb a***s there are out there who think it is just another 4 cylinder toy.

My other half is not a fan but her daughter loves it.

Cars, like motorcycles and boats are personal choice. Would not swap any of mine, well maybe one of the bikes for another Italian one.

Nice styling, but it wouldn't really keep up with the Giulia Quadrifoglio on or off the racetrack and gives you a slipped disc getting out of it. Power to weight and weight dist. is better in the Giulia.

It's really just an over stretched 911.

Oh and it's double the price.....

its not even close to being a 911 !!

there's nothing in the speed , wogs claim 307 km and 0-100 in 3.9 sec ............. lying

Aston Martin state 297 km and 0-100 in 4.1 sec ............. no point in trying to stretch the truth

if someone had enough money to purchase the alpha , then I'm sure they would have twice that to purchase the real deal .

have a look alpha obviously styled after the db9 , a blatant wog rip off ! and who in there right mind would want to sit in the back of a four door wog mobile doing 300 ks !!! back doors superfluous .... looks more like a ... ??...well shopping trolley?

You have a point there SandS, even if your motoring terminology dates back to that XY falcon. But form follows function and there are only 3 basic functions of a vehicle. A people transporter, a goods transporter and a chick magnet. The first two can only be square and boxy, the Alfa 75 thus passes as well designed. Chick magnets must be low and swoopy, look like they'll go fast and look like they cost a lot of money. A low and swoopy car with 4 doors is ridiculous. Looks like you'll cut the date short to fly off to pick the kids up from soccer practice.

But look at your XY! Started as a low and swoopy 4 door car, that's bad enough, then they added random bulgy bits in an attempt to make it a goods transporter???? not a good look. Of course when they went the other way and made it a 2 door. Different story.

While researching Alfa's pioneering achievements in automotive engineering I came across this suspension setup. But it's not an Alfa AWD. What is it?

It's essentially a Ferrari sedan. I don't think you have yet appreciated it's potential. Anything that outperforms a BMW M3 Competition and Mercedes C63 AMG is quick.

I didn't say the Alpha was an over stretched 911. I was referring to your Aston Martin photo. The styling is just 911 ripoff with too much stretching.

The Alpha has a better power to weight ratio and weight distribution than the Aston Martin. That's why the Alpha is better.

Actually, I think in profile it looks much like an M3.

As for the reference to "wog mobiles", I'd take the alpha over a clapped out Ford hearse or Aston Martin anyday. As a day to day car, the Alpha is better than both ends of the spectrum.

I bought one of these when i was 19 for $2,000. It had rust, electrical issues and the fuel lines leaked like a sieve.. but the red paint and Alfa badge was all I cared about. I seemed to think my extra $2,000 in the bank would have it perfected and humming. By the time I had bought a set of racy Yokohama tyres and serviced it I was broke. Drove it around unregistered occasionally and it was a great ride before the police fined me off the road. Sold it for something pedestrian.

I might buy a restored Sprint for my 40th in a few years to finish what I started.

and the alpha is obviously styled from the db9 ...... are you blind ?

Your question about my vision is rhetorical and yes I take your point about the 911 and remark that's an opinion.

Who said the Alpha was styled from a DB9?

DB9 and the new Alfa being the same .... I think not.

The DB9 was designed by The DB9, designed by Marek Reichman and Henrik Fisker a pair of germans I think, and the new Alfa, designed "in house"

I am hanging for a test drive in the new Quadrifoglio but it would need to be very very good for me to outlay the dollars, but sell my 159 Ti Q4, I think not.

SandS guess each to their own but until you have owned and driven one, one is really able to comment. Mine shares the carport with my italian bikes, ... but I can sit at the lights knowing that there is bugger all chance of another one being next to me .... fulfillment of "bucket list", another Alfa

Alfa Alfetta GTV6 Race cars

Excellent handling and racing pedigree made these cars able to take it to the big lumbering V8s they were pitted against. Alan Jones and Colin Bond doing excellent behind the wheel.
