Don't mind Skids idea of a homemade container padlocked to the car, mind you that brings the ol key around the neck back into action.

I'd prefer not to have the key hanging on my neck. If the cord is weak it may break and the key gets lost, if the cord is strong it may be another thing to worry about in a kite mare.

Back when my old 85 camry (RIP) was alive, I used to have a spare key on a short cord (about 6" long) tied to the inside of the knife pocket on the back of my harness.
Worked well as I always new where the key was and it was out of the way even if it came out of the pocket.

Although I did manage to lock it in my car once

Mobile key guard car alarm is what you need, (technical name dog )
My staff bully stays in the van,( mercedes sprinter, auto aircon)

Pikie Kids in Ireland had a great racket years ago, offering to 'mind' your car for 5 quid while you went shopping.

Basically you cough up a fiver or your car gets wrecked.

I recall a story about one bloke who refused, saying "what do you think he's for?" pointing to a large Rottwieler in the passenger seat before walking away.

One smart ar$ed kid calls out after him "Excuse me sir, can your dog put out fires?"

The bloke apparently paid the fiver.

I carry my key on me in my aqua pack with the gps - never had an issue with water getting in. Makes it nice and eaasy to get in and out of the car just press the lock button on your arm then relock it once done.

hehe Same for me... I somehow (in a rush to get out, with all my gear setup ready to go) managed to lock the car and my harness (and key) on the inside.

Kids?
Geez how scary can they be.... I'd have hoped 5 or 10 blokes would have gone and sorted them out

So, are you still stuck in the Scarbs carpark trying to get your key out so you can go home?

Pardon my stupidity but do you just hook it up to the tow hitch? In plan site? I normally take a spare key in my wet suit or boardies pocket but atm only have the genuine key with remote. I just had extra keys cut for my old Prado only to trade it in tow weeks later.

a while ago I got a spare cut, whilst locking the real keys inside the car, the locksmith suggested that if you inadvertantly use the spare key to try and start the car, the computer says no and goes into meltdown, is it true? so now I just use the keysafe, I dont trust and old memory

My 2002 Subaru was fine with the blank key. Operated accessories, but didn't start the car.

These days, I just throw the new Subaru key into the wettie, or onto the key loop in the boardies. I don't give a .... I carry the 2nd key in the car.... After 2+ years, both keys are going 100%. There is a little weather proof seal. I figure I have a 3 year warranty. And I figure that covers my keys!

I bought what looked like the last one at Bunners Mindarie and used it this morning.
My Toyota mate said you can't wipe the computer with a standard key so maybe i'll get one of those and leave it in my key holder..

It did feel a little strange walking away leaving my key were everyone knows it is..
