I think it is pretty clear now that the GW doesnt just take one bite by mistake and then leave. They do come for seconds.
The Kiwi case and also the Wedge case are examples.
It's all pritty random...if the critter is hungry it will eat anything. I have seen them eat ....1 large pizza, 1 coke can, many albatross and giant pectorals, 1 large boat fender, a number of white styrene floats, 2 seals, 1 large stingray, lots of floating seaweed and finally a boat anchor on retrieval! True story.
I think the sharks where there first mate.... As humans we moved into the water.....in the 1700s most men couldn't swim never mind surf! It's not like the sharks are climbing onto land and attacking us!
Use that argument and humans would be still be foraging on the African savanna being harassed by baboons.
Basically it's not real clear on what you are stating in fact after my years working with whites I would have to say you are completely wrong on what you are claiming and some whites on some days could not even give a rats if someone was swimming near them at the time..... Just like dogs some bite and most don't.
The Wedge one and another at Esperance are the only ones I have direct first hand knowledge of.
In the former, yes a second go as you said.
In the latter, a shark was seen to chase a seal, lose it in the whitewater then bite a surfer a minute later. It did not come back.
I can't think of too many reported 'second goes' ....... but really I think it is all supposition and irrelevant.
todays report from NZ
fisherman on rocks witnessed the event.
they do go back for a second bite
thats all
Us humans are our own worst enemy's ......we rape and pillage the ocean with every line hook net method we can and remove billions of tons of fish from the ocean....seals suffer from this as less food lowers breeding...seal numbers have been down for many 100 years.... Fish stocks are at a all time low..... Sharks need food to replenish energy after there long migrations to where ever they go. We remove there food then we ask why they attacted us? Thread closed!
Sums it up perfectly Hilly!
Be interesting to see if the NZ gov / fisheries have the balls to prosecute the copper who was happy to unload on what is simply an apex predator doing what nature intended.
I have driven boats professionally for years
The fact of the matter is that sharks are smart in fact as smart if not smarter than your own pet dog. They are habitual feeders and often return to a known feeding place year after year.
We have protected them for twenty years now which is also coincidentally the age a great white shark develops enough jaw strength to eat a seal or human.
With twenty years of no natural predators overpopulation and exhausted fish stocks these sharks have become quite competitive for food.
They are also around the same age and attitude of a typical twenty year old human ie full of testosterone.
Shark cage diving is a funny thing we Bentley them up antagonise them and enable them to relate not only the sound of a boat motor to food but then once these sharks are then in feeding mode jump into the water.
The poor hungry antagonized shark then gets tuna morsels thrown at them for several hours while people enter the cage one after the other, by now the shark is lunging at the cage and biting it, all in all extremely pissed off. He than swims away thinking next time I hear a boat motor or see an uncaged human I will feed.
They remember and it's not that they hold a grudge it's more now that we are a accepted food source.
The sole reason for the increase in shark attacks are for the above reasons.
Sharks have been aware of humans for a long time think back to whaling and the relationship humans had with them than.
There was a whaling station not 5 km from the main swimming beach and no attacks for years.
This is because these sharks were not taunted and dare I say it trained to attack.
I do not agree with shark cage diving and believe it should stop immediately.
Can you imagine doing the same thing to lions than letting them go in a suburban area.
I think the best book out there is one by Hugh Edwards called shark. If you surf or enjoy the water read that before saying there should be no cull or they don't attack on purpose.
They don't attack people on purpose yet they eat them??????
Keep putting your head in the sand.
And the last 5 years there has been over 8 fatalities in wa but none prior for 10 years which coincidentally aligns with the real push in tourist shark cage diving hmmmmmm no they attack people on accident.
Remember the abrolos attack boat motor stops man jumps in gets eaten of course there trained.
Cottosloe three fatalities same beach same time of year and you tell me it's not the same shark.
By the way Hugh Edwards also wrote island of angry ghosts bout Batavia murders... Have a look might find out some things you don't want to know
I more thing whilst on this topic.
What are we going to do when someone's child gets taken.
Or one of the guys you know
Unlikely you think..not so much anymore
Say oh it's their ocean.......
Didn't think so
And they reported that a right little feeding frenzy ensued, so who's to say the same shark came back?
Anyone in any state where they have shark nets ie Queensland of course feels safe to say don't kill it man.
Yet the same nets that guard your beaches killed 217 great whites last year through incidental catches.
Then you happily say you can't kill rogue or menace sharks, cool no worries come surf cowermup cliffs with us for a few hours.
Or maybe the outer reefs of Perth or lancelin..
The difference between a shark hugger and a shark killer is about two hours in the water surfing at some of these breaks.
If you don't surf where these problem sharks migrate your not entitled to an opinion.
Some interesting points u revealed in such a vocational manner. I for one
comprehensively agree! 57 tiger sharks spotted this summer from memory. warm currents and migratary paths of tropical fish stock may have led to increased adult tiger sharks off perth . And warmer water not favoured by rhe great whit..... makes me wonder. were we lucky this summer? These warm currents are not a usual pattern for the regular seasons. competition with grown tiger sharks and warmwr water probably kept these prehistoric survivalists further south. say around adelaide ....getting even more annoyed with the blly teasing they receive daily. and then.....furthermore. instead next attack in new zealand. Hmmm water a little cooler there.....adelaide to tassie to n.z. following cool currents further due to the southern of our country diluting warmer currents. did increased ariel patrols save us this summer. well there were plenty of days beaches were closed. but when conditions are more favourable next summer? habitual feeders will return to pleasant memorys. And react agressively to bad memories....and theres a little more each year. And there all a little bigger..... But i think forget all this. Lets focus on fishing tuna stocks at such a highly unsusstainable rate that by 2050 there wont be anymore to export to countries which buy ours as there oceans are polluted. Overfished and heavily depleated
Sorry what was that 217 great whites killed in shark nets in Queensland last year?
And yes I will suck it up clearly your right obviously taking things out of context is something your good at.
So I'll just pack another and suck it up then ponder about people's motives to argue a point that's incorrect and out of context.
I think I'd make a good princess a full on lesbian one that eats portia de rossis pussy whilst Ellen sucks my rock hard princess dick
How many people drive cars every day and compare that same mass population % that drive . To the % of ppl who are in the water on a daily basis. And recrunch the numbers ...seriously think theres more than 2-5000 surfers surfing w.a daily? 7 attacks in a calender year may be like micheal clarkes summer. Unsurpassed. But 7/5000*365 is about 1.8million surfers in w.a water net figure. now 1.5 million drivers x365 days is over 500million drivers on road ...divided by state fatalities on road. 200 at a guess.....comes to one person in 2.5 million drives vs 7 ppl in 1.8 million surfs ? ? people in china dont surf much. Drive alot. Statistics can be glossed up to portray a missleading view.......these are ballpark figures. If u want to argue the precision of my numbers than you have missed the point. Surf w.a. Riskier than driving
