It seems that the laws over there are a bit out of date.
I would like to get Marks comment on this.
I think Australia and the UK have good strict laws in place.
the right to bear arms is one thing- the right to bear several large calibre fully automatic assault rifles is another...
It's too late now.
Make guns illegal, all the good people hand them in, then it would be a free for all for the crooks.
So, to break away to the obvious tangent, if the number of guns in the US has gone past critical mass and even the idea of a mass buyback and destruction program is ridiculous, there's the other side of the equation to consider. Why are there so many US citizens who decide to take their guns and go on a killing spree? What is broken in their brains? What is broken in their society?
^^^ Or do what they did here - hand in semi-autos to be crushed, my father (farmer) handed in his shotgun and watched it put through the bender, only to have the law lifted shortly after!
While America does have the most, it isn't just them,http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/07/20/the-worst-mass-shootings-of-the-past-50-years/
That news article has a list of shootings, sure America has a few, but Tasmania still has one of the worst, Finland has had a couple.
The gun law thing is a tough one. In a country like Australia, I think something like this is unlikely because I don't think an actual criminal does it. It's gotta be a crazy person.
Surely no normally minded person would do this (im not defending them either, they should be locked up for good). And I can't see some bikie member/some other crook going on a rampage like this killing innocent people.
I don't know the stats, but I'm guessing a small percent of Australians own a firearm. Giving it less chance of landing in a nut jobs hands, making less chance of a mass killing.
Why is it that nearly all of these shootings take place in a country where there is a heavy government agenda to disarm the people? Was for a long time a supporter of disarmament, changed my tune now.
What is the purpose for having a gun at all?
If gun is to protect you from another people then what about another end of the scale ?
Countries that people don't have guns at all .....
Is it safer to live then in US ?
The cause of all these problems is obviously people moving away from God. Gay marriage, womens rights, equality, abortion, Muslims, atheists, all that. It's like in Ghostbusters when everyone was mean to each other and all that purple goo started building up in the sewers.
As previously said i think it's way to far gone in th US unfortunately.
Probably the best thing is for all the good, sane people to carry a gun and when some f#cked up whacko whips out an arsenal hopefully someone will pop him first...
