How is that, just watching the final live on the WSL. Mick had an encounter with a shark, possible two! And it thrashed pretty hard, snapped his leash.
Scary. Those leashes don't break easy.
Please tell me what you use...cause I go through a few every year...

I am with you subasurf.
Just so glad Mick is ok.
It's been in the back of my mind for ages, Just a matter of time before a teabagger on lessons experiences the same thing... or someone out back of Leighton dragging around trying to find their board sees that big grey dorsal pop up looking for a feed.
Man I felt for those guys having a camera shoved in their faces right after they got out of the water, and the adrenalin was wearing off and the gravity of the situation was sinking in.
It bought back memories of the emotions I went through after a similar close call about decade ago, and the sequence of emotions you have after spotting that noah right next to you in the water, then making it out alive. Granted, I didn't have to fight the thing off like Mick did!
So glad he is ok, what a fu#&ing freaky situation, poor/ lucky bastard!
I reckon he summed it up when he said he doesn't care if he never competes ever again - that's a sure sign of the pure emotion running through the mind of the most competitive guys on the planet right there!
I was watching the final live on TV last night. I have to be honest, it was the scariest moment I've seen on TV. My wife ran out of the room expecting the worst. Mick is so lucky to be alive. I'm glad he is okay. Julian Wilson swimming towards Mick showed exceptional bravery.

Totally agree. Whilst it is expected they would be interviewed etc I felt for them, with the commentator in the boat I was sitting there thinking, dont interview him, just chat and sign off, then over he goes and shoves the mic in his face
Although I felt for them being put on the spot, it was good to see the raw emotion in the later interviews and hopefully some guys out there see it is ok to show emotion over these things.
Sorry to hear you had a scare Chris, it sticks with you.
Apparently locals were out surfing within ten minutes of the event closure
So scary and what absolute legends MF and Willo just proved to be
I wonder if the cage diving will be banned at last, or will they wait till it will get worse than that.
When he went behind that first roller, I thought he was gone for sure.
Then seeing him swimming he was literally a sitting duck waiting.
That was a real life changing reality check situation and just glad he is fine. What a story to tell, that footage will be shown for decades to come.
P.s. im pretty sure he broke the Internet. Kim Kardawho?
Yes I must say watching live the initial feelings was my heart rate went up coz thats gonna be a white and oh f#@% he is behind that wave oh ****! I can honestly say I was expecting to see a possible limb missing when he was lifted onto the back of the ski. Thankfully nothing happened.
It did seem a bit intrusive for the cameras and interviews to happen like they did seconds/minutes after the incident, but this has never happened before infront of a camera and its compelling footage. Far better than any movie.
So glad noone was hurt, and by the footage they all have the support of some real good friends.
maybe they need to reschedule the jbay contest , so that it doesn't coincide with the great sardine run up the east coast of sth africa !!!
very lucky man !!!
I know how he must be feeling , brings back some terrible memories.
I don't think he will be back in the water soon.
Very lucky man!!
What, a Bruce can't use a leggy as dental floss!
WTF, where's a kiteboarder when you need them. Napkin, dental floss, toothpicks and dinner all in one.... mmmm tastes like chicken
Dude, he's an expert on LGBTQ sharks. That's how he knows the shark just wanted to be Mick's friend.

ok, I will give a credit to the the lady marine biologist who only said she didn't know what the shark intention was...
