Im just glad that they have installed Pointless fences at the beach...
Would wreck my day if they had installed pointy fences.....
Fences on beaches are also commonly used to keep dogs, vehicles and foot traffic out of shorebird breeding areas. Nothing worse than seeing squished pied oyster catcher chicks in 4WD tracks or chomped by dogs. I'll have fences, happy wildlife and healthy dunes thanks
Understand your frustration Simondo. I see this a bit at my locals although, not as bad as yours. The councils here are at war with the elements to control the littoral drift. I did a bit of reading up a few years ago. The littoral drift effect on the northern beaches of Adelaide is a very complicated interaction, which started with a simple thing 70 years ago when the council terraformed a part of Adelaide. You would never guess that one thing, would lead onto another, then another, then another. till finally we have people's houses falling into the sea. I'm no expert on it, and I don't think the councils are either. .. but I respect the complexity of the problem, and that their intentions are good.
That fence isn't pointless. The council fenced off the area right in front of the carpark for Alex Sanz. He will use that space when he heads down the coast this Summer.
Normal everyday people will probably park their cars at the top of the fenced off area and will want to hang out next to the beach. Some may want to have a picnic on the grass with their family. Others will attempt to relax by reading a book on the grass.
That carpark will be a perfect spot to launch a kite this Summer!
I am now convinced that the fence isn't pointless, it has provoked vigirous public discussion. If we were under Taliban rule we wouldn't be able to have such disscussions. And if we were under Taliban rule the fence would be to prop up displays of dead infidels - so this fence has uses no matter what you believe, totally not pointless!
