Heck, I can't understand why with all of the faster than speed of light aircraft, lazer weapons, high energy cannons etc, that anyone would be living in tents lit by torches, have no roads, and fight with medieval weapons with a 1 meter range.

That is an easy one, deansh250...Because the defence department took over the entire nation's budget The citizens are forced to live in squalor in exchange for security. As for the hand-to-hand combat light sabres, they were meant to be much more sophisticated than that, but the outsource department f up and engaged some dodgy contractors from Toys-R-Us.

Reminds you of the real world?

Just saw it....good movie, but IMO far too much plot is drawn from Episode IV and a little of the others.......obviously deliberate, but I don't really understand why...kinda seemed stale to me...not sure if this a spoiler or not...plot from both movies...

1) hidden young potential Jedi living on a desert planet
2) Fugitive from "Empire" escapes imperial ship orbiting said desert planet...with no other than a droid with hidden plans in it...
3) Imperial Ship is controlled by darth vader wannabie that is chasing the plans
4) Young potential Jedi escapes pursuing storm troopers with droid...on....the millennium Falcon...with Han Solo and Chewy
5) all go looking for Rebels to deliver plans.....and throw in an obligatory scene of a bar with muppets in it...
6) Empire responds by blowing up a planet or 3 with new super weapon
7) Rebels attack new super weapon...Han and ground team have to disable shields before X-wing fighters can make runs at dropping torps at it....
8) Vader wannabie kills someone important...
9) everyone escapes just before weapon blows up...
10) new young Jedi goes and finds hidden Jedi Master living alone on a planet...

Was kinda hoping for something new...

i just relized that the new vaderite ( Ben) couldnt even pick up a light sabre out of snow, .
gonna have to practice that one BEN.
and storm trooper armour , still the most useless protection in the galaxy against , like everything.
even wookie fur was better at surviving a laser blast
