I counted 7, maybe 8 because there's something in the gutter that may or may not be a casualty. Are there any details of that photo? other than some pissed guy cleaning up a heap of pushy riders.

Drunk driver ploughs into cycle race

June 03, 2008 01:55pm
Article from: The Daily Telegraph

THIS horrifying picture shows the moment a US man apparently drunk and asleep ploughed into cyclists on a bike race - killing one and injuring at least 10 others.
Driver Juan Campos, 28, was charged with killing Alejandro Alvarez, 37, along the highway near the US-Mexico border.

Authorities said the wreck happened 15 minutes into the 34km race yesterday between Playa Bagdad and Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas.

Campos, who police claimed was drunk and asleep during the incident, said he was an American citizen living in Brownsville. The US Consulate could not immediately confirm that.

"We are looking into the incident in terms of whether American citizens were involved," consulate spokesman Todd Huizinga said.

On a personal note, this is no joking manner, I went through a similar experience aged 13, when a driver ran through 14 of us on a cycling training session killing my trainer.

I remember he had empties in the car but can't remember if he was drunk, I remember seeing him cut one corner then swing wide on the next one cleaning us all (bar 1) up, I can still hear the screaming of my mates.

A bit serious on some light hearted comments but for me it's personal

hmmmm. not so funny any more.

Quite sobering when you get past the "internet photo" aspect and think about the people involved.

So sorry to hear this happened to you and your mates, elmo..

sorry to any one else I offended.

Hey, Leach wasn't driving the car and he wasn't to know, so no foul.

I know that drinking is a socially acceptable past time, but we should never accept or condone some irresponsible rsole driving whilst drunk.

Hope and pray that you or your family never get as close and personal to these ***** (can't think of the right words for them ) as what I have been.

And for those that think, "I've only got to drive a short way it'll be alright" my last meeting with one of these charmers was a head on 200m away from my house, this rsole lived one street away from me, I've been in constant pain with a stuffed neck since 1985, I was lucky

I can't forget, I will never forgive, may they burn slowly

The biggest thing I hate in the whole world are people who drink and drive
Its not cool to "pissy drive"
In conversation the other week a bloke at work was saying how he use to live a street back from the Sands in Scabs.
He liked going there to drink because he didnt have to pissy drive home
He didnt have to say it but he sounded like he did it often and had no dramas doing it
@#$% wit

Pissy drivers in WA is common, an observation not generalisation, it's like the east coast 30+ years ago. About time they got some booze busses and RBT's happening.
