I think that is very informative. If only there was someone here that liked Skodas...?

You know, we are quite fortunate, going off on a tangent, that we lost the great discussion skills of Bonomiano and now others have stepped in to fill the void. It would have been very quiet otherwise.

I think Adrianator was that guy. Whatever happened to him? I think he bought a pretty powerful car in the end, and maybe it came unstuck? It wasn't a Skoda though.

I have no idea who you are talking about.

I do think that owning a high powered car is entirely unnecessary, irresponsible and even hypocritical if the owner promotes a low-carbon lifestyle. Unless, of course, it's an electric car... then big it up for all those in mining that deliver all those metals!!!

No no no, that's where I have to step in an defend that unnamed person you don't remember and who has left this place. Just because you are in favor of a low-carbon society does not mean you have to give up all wordly posessions or even kill yourself to limit what you consume. It just means its better to help society get there.

Performance cars don't have to use more fuel most of the time. A lot of high power turbo cars would be using similar amounts to lower output cars, so where is the problem? I take my own stance on this and aim to only mow my lawn when I really really have to. I also decide to not wash my car much, although I have drawn the line at personal hygene and shower at least once a month whether I need it or not.

If only that guy were able to see this and join up to the forum again, and agree with my sentiments??

New book coming out soon:

FALSE ALARM : How Climate Change Panic Costs Us Trillions, Hurts the Poor, and Fails to Fix the Planet.

Politicians, activists, and the media espouse a common message: climate change is destroying the planet, and we must take drastic action immediately to stop it. Children panic about their future, and adults wonder if it is even ethical to bring new life into the world.

Enough, argues bestselling author Bjorn Lomborg. Climate change is real, but it's not the apocalyptic threat that we've been told it is.

Projections of Earth's imminent demise are based on bad science and even worse economics.

In panic, world leaders have committed to wildly expensive but largely ineffective policies that hamper growth and crowd out more pressing investments in human capital, from immunization to education.

False Alarm will convince you that everything you think about climate change is wrong -- and points the way toward making the world a vastly better, if slightly warmer, place for us all.

Available 23rd June 2020

more of the same from Bjorn
"He is to the debate what Dr. Oz is to medicine, a rodeo clown who frames his information to give audiences what they want (a quick- fix miracle cure) and cries censorship when confronted by actual scientists."

not surprising that he writes for your pals at the Australian TA!

Hey, I work in Perth CBD now! Want to catch up for lunch? The lack of wind recently has meant that I have not had to shower for a few weeks, but somehow everyone else is working from home....?

Having fun, Tony? If NZ acts on its own its effect is miniscule. If all countries act together then NZ's 0.004 degrees counts.

After all, NZ has a population of a bit under 5 million. That's about 1/1400 of the world population. 1400 X 0.004 = 5.6 degrees cooler than it would be otherwise.

Or

$7,000,000,000,000,000

Ouch

I don't think everyone wants it 5.6c colder, the Canadian climate protesters could not protest on the weekend because it was too cold.

and yet when leftards get challenged to act on their convictions and live a fossil fuel free life they respond with the weak excuse that it will make no difference. C'mon Mr Milk be like NZ and lead the way.

When have I ever said that individual actions make no difference? Every little bit helps. As Newton put it about 400 years ago, it's all about infinitesimals.

That's why I got up on the roof the other day with a mop and cleaned the summer's bushfire soot and duststorm dust off my solar panels. Output was down by 15-25%, but now it's back to normal. ie About 2-3KWh/day improvement.
I wonder how many people wash their cars regularly, which makes no difference to their performance, but completely forget about their solar system, which relies on being clean to work properly.

It is not me that aligning policy with gulagism, the alarmists are doing it themselves. Maybe they will be more like nazi concentration camps. Maybe they will rename them something else.

That's not what the translated German opinion piece says at all. It is speculating on what might be an appropriate response 10 years into the future if things get really bad, climate wise. It suggests that actively opposing climate change mitigation efforts could become an offence and repeated infringement could result in prison terms.
So that's pretty much what you like to see happening to people who protest against mining and forestry projects in Australia.

The only thing we agree about is that you have the commonest type of colour blindness. You can't tell what is red from what is green.
And that you are innumerate

Just wondering....is that before or after the "end of western civilisation" that any move towards a carbon neutral planet will trigger?

Dunno, HC. He is saying that people will be put up against a wall, that scientists are fools, and that academics are criminals (which is the logical outcome of his claims about their research). His abuse is far stronger than anything I've said, and his abuse is dishonest. If someone is willing to dishonestly abuse people like TA does, why can't they be called "vile"?

Yes I guess you have a point Chris. I realise I was wrong and I retract my former statement.

Hey Chris, you know how the real TA publicly confessed he's "uncomfortable" talking about homosexuality?

I wonder if there's a chance he's also a closet watermelon. You know, a redneck with a green interior?

Nah, I'm kidding myself!

vile definition: 1. unpleasant, immoral, and unacceptable: 2. extremely unpleasant: 3. evil or disgusting:

Come on TA - you must be aware that having the audacity to question their science in these days of strict hate speech laws and political correctness qualifies you to be branded a wicked and evil human being.

TA - Scientists are not CRIMINALS they are our GODS and do not forget it
