Smart phones in Japan... standard contract is 2 years. Rough prices...

iPhone 5c = free + $30/month
iPhone 5s = $150 + $30/month

Sony Xperia = $40 + $40/month

Nexus 5 = $50 + $50/month

Guess Apple doesn't want people getting an Android! I've got an Android tablet and liked it (before it broke) but I won't pay hundreds extra for the pleasure... although I'll get back to you in 2 years

All of those with Android devices, especially those who pride themselves in using "custom" versions, get this app to ensure you are not vulnerable to heartbleed.
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout.heartbleeddetector
If you get a positive, pray for an update from your vendor.

I'm all android now, but have been trying an I pad the last few days, man what a freaky, hard to use thing. Hate it.

Thinking of getting a mini. Why is it hard to use?

If you like Android, don't buy a Samsung.
www.gizmodo.com.au/2014/04/what-is-tizen/
They are doing their own OS now. No more Android updates from them.
As for the hard to use comment, do you have overly large digits? Both are fairly similar to use. Both have touch input and apps are launched by touching them.

This is my home screen - it's about a million miles prettier, and more sophisticated then a fruit screen, which looks day-glo colours (you don't get a choice, iOS7) and blocky by comparison.. The blue waves move slowly, and move fast under your finger. The volume bar is showing when I took the screenshot, and running over the date under the clock.

260 DPI?

Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors

It's getting long in the tooth now, if I bought a new phone today I'd buy this:
www.knowyourmobile.com/tablets/samsung-galaxy-note-3/21293/samsung-galaxy-note-3-review-best-phablet-just-got-lot-better

But I'm waiting for a better phablet (HATE that word) to arrive. Around 6.8-7 inch screen size, with the rest of the insides filled with more battery.

Try reading the article.

It's only a backup in case they ever have a major falling out with Google.
For the moment they make squillions selling Android devices, they're not going to change that situation by choice.

I couldn't figure out how to bookmark a webpage. Couldn't install free aps like ABC and Iview without signing up for a apple account. The app store is an unholly mess to navigate. It's a dog's breakfast. You have to be an ADHD kid to use it.

Sony experia is brilliant. Takes good photos, is light and best of all waterproof. Dropped mine at Safety Bay into water, still works.

forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507369

Step 1: Changing phone pixel density from x to y
Open Rom Toolbox
Go to the Performance Tab
Select the build.prop Editor
Click the Magnifying Glass to search
Type in "Density"
Click on the ro.sf.lcd_density
Change the Property Value from x to y
Click YES on reboot prompt

I am about as far from an ADHD kid as you can get, book marking a web page is simple, navigating the app store easy as, I would probably have trouble navigating my way around an android device though.

You get used to whatever you use and anything else feels strange, sailboarders think sailboards rule kiters think kites rule, who is right...........

I did read the article. My quote was about Android updates, not the availability of Android on the phones.
Most Samsung devices over 12 months old are on 4.3 (and will receive no further updates), newer models are 4.4 but usually a few minor versions behind 4.4.x.
With the move to Tizen, there will be less impotence for them to release Android updates in a timely manner. This is going to become more critical as more exploits are found in earlier versions.
Another reason for Samsung moving away from Android is to escape the constant patent/legal war with Apple. They are Google's punching bag for this.
Get a Nexus. Google updates straight from the source. Have the latest patches first.

I had a turn on an Android device and couldn't figure out how to make a phone call. It was unfamiliar too me. Once shown it was simple. It's the same with anything new.

Send To > Bookmarks/Reading List/Add to Home Screen/Message/Mail/Twitter/FaceBook.
It's a two-tap process.

Even small children have no problem installing apps on iOS.

Apple-haters are an odd bunch. It's either too dumbed down or too hard.

Apologies, I misunderstood.

My current phone is a nexus, and my wifes. She gets google updates.
I wait a few weeks/months then flash updates once the modders have rewritten everything to fix all the bugs in google's updates
Currently run slimbean rom, couldn't be happier so I've stopped updating it.

Yes, you do have a point, I don't deny that there are much less apps available for Windows Phone. I was contesting it on a technicality - not "all" the popular apps are missing from WP - the ones on my list are pretty popular.

How'd you get the wind direction/strength tile?
