I weigh 77kg and have the S60 V2. I didn't get the S52 because it would have been too close to my F-One Fish (which is the best board ever!!!!!!!!).
I loooove my S60. It is sooo much fun. Cruising perfectly trimmed and blasting, being out and powered when other people don't even go to the beach, carving big arcing power gybes, trimming on waves longboard style. Fun, fun, fun
Short answer. Don't know. It's too hard to come up with definitive numbers for light wind.
In the past the Fawkner Beacon weather station would be reading 15+ knots when we were riding light wind gear. With the S60 it's reading 10-12 and we are powered up and doing upwind tours.
I can definitively say the that the Fish goes upwind about 10-15 degrees higher, and goes a heap faster than the just anything ridden by anybody else. The S60 is about the same amount better than the Fish. One evening I blasted off on my Fish and left everybody else behind. My mate came along 15 minutes later on the S60 and caught and past me in less than 10 minutes.
In my opinion it's not a linear thing where you get more bottom end by going to a bigger/raceboard. There reaches a stage where you can ride fast and go upwind, but when you try to turn and head back you lose the apparent wind and you are struggling to keep the kite in the air. So, a bigger board means much more fun in lighter winds (staying upwind and riding fast and carving around) vs slogging along on a light wind TT just holding ground and looking at the view.
PS. I might sell my S60 V2 and get a V3 when they get out here. The option of putting surf fins on would be a big plus.
Thanks
To be clear I am not intererested in definitive numbers but simply a comparison of low wind performance of the Fish versus the Sector, not other boards.
I see you say the Fish points higher into the wind and the Sector is faster.
What I really want to know is which board can you get up and ride and stay upwind first?
Thanks again
I have read Gorgo's reply 20 times and I am still unclear, but then again, I almost failed English....
When taliking about light winds he compares a "bigger board" vs a "light wind TT".
I am after his determination of "Fish" vs "Sector".
He obviously has a lot of experience with both.
I kited Cottesloe (next to Swanbourne) today between 1-2pm on my Sector 60 (V1) and 13m VarialXRace. Wind was <6.5kn, I had to run backwards to get the kite in the sky (assisted launch). Only kited for about 30min but I could still kite upwind.
