Here's a clip of the Bass Strait Crossing that I noticed a number of people are keen to see.

Ben and I had been training hard for this and we are stoked that we made it!
Our family, friends and sponsors were awesome and were never in doubt that we would be successful. But unlike the punters that said we were

Nuts for trying to cross Bass Strait (who we thought of often to fight the pain), those that know us have seen us taking on the biggest waves we can find for years. Plus they know we are pretty loose!

Thanks to our sponsors: Snickers, Takoon, Rip Curl, Da Kine, Stonker, and Maurice Cole.

And our support crew: Grant Wharington (Skipper), Graham Taylor (Tactician), Stefan Morrison-Jack (cook!), Wes Greene, Marty and Sam (filming - Nalu productions), Zig van Der Sluys (moral support) and Alex 'Stonk' Gillan (Stonker boards, Takoon importer, and coach!)

These guys were All Time!

Regards

Weighty

ianmac why don't you give it a go? Oh hang on a minute 250km at say 1 board per 10km would be ~25 boards. Yeah maybe it's not for your style of kiting.

I've sailed 250 km in a day on my windsurfer, but that was with lots of breaks, lunch, fresh water, lots of changes of tack, and all done on a big estuary

Did you carry water with you, or did you get that (and food) from the boat?

Big respect, that's a really impressive effort. Well done guys!

with out detracting from the excellent effort or hijacking the thread, " slack" you are obviously going to have to power up your kiting if your have not broken a board yet you are not going hard enough
Slack would be referring tp my recent misfortune of breaking a board in recent days great effort guys tough swim in !!!

We had camel backs with about 2.5 litres of powerade and some energy bars in a pouch on our harness. We did not touch the boat or get anything from it except some cheering!

amazing effort guys. I love adventuring storys like that. It must feel awesome to have done something other people could only dream of. The memories will stick with u for life. Other people may try to beat your time in the future but you guys will always be the first on kites, no one can take that away, the first time is always the coolest because of the unknown.

We got blank kites from Takoon and the Snickers logos were painted on by sailmakers.
It's expensive to do it that way but it meant the kites did not need to be taken apart at the seams. People have been talking about getting mainstream sponsors into kiting for a long time and Snickers are blown away at the exposure they have got from this.

We are pretty keen to go back and kite Dangerous Banks just off Tassie when its breaking properly. That's the spot that Ross Clarke-Jones and Tom Carroll recently towed. It was out of our way to check it out but we had to tick it off. But we would like another crack at it... We have a few other ideas but will have to keep them low for now!
