Go to Sanur Beach, and Cadek has a full set there you can hire. I didn't take any gear, and I was out of pocket about $45 ausd for the day. Worth the money no travel hassles, he had full range of light wind gear and I weigh about 88kg.

Went to Sanur, took my own gear, two kites two boards and only out of pocket $50 for three weeks, now that's worth the money, no travel hassles and I'm a bit self conscious of my weight

Hi folks,
We stayed at Nusa Dua just south of Benoa river inlet.Watersport traffic a worry
Until tide to low for them. Then conditions were excellent for mainly flat water blasting around.
Waves upwind on reef but mainly running parallel to swell very tidal.Going back Nth Nsw tonight 31/8.
Been here since 11/8 so first two weeks mainly 10-15 kts 11-13mtr Edges.
Last 7 days we only kited twice 13-15m Edges wind only just kite able at 8-13 kts.Saw a couple of white kites and blue kite over near Serungan but wind was lightish.
This last week very light unless foil kite and big board which I didn't have.
In brief wife and I had 9-11-13-15m edges,
A North skim fish,2x shin Turbos.
Balinese are awesome loving people had a great time wind just a bit light.Cheers B & L

... Nusa Dua is crazy, can't believe you kited there and didn't have an accident, soooo many crazy tourists on jetski's who have no idea what kitesurfing is so think its funny to dive bomb you! I kited from Sanur to Nusa Dua last year and after a few near misses with paragliders and jetskies, worked out its much safer back in Sanur plus waves were bigger. Too dangerous so didn't bother this year. Not sure why but I found the wind felt lighter at Nusa Dua,,,, maybe there was more currents,,,, not sure!

BTW, the white kites you saw over at Serangan were the Core team riders on those new Core wave kites (which looked impressive btw) taking off from Serangan. I got to have a little session with them on the Sanur side of Serangan and they certainly know how to smack the lumps about. Water is deeper so easier to take off from there.

cheers,

Robbie :)

Hey Robbie, yes the mad water sports were a huge challenge. My wife dropped her kite then a speed boat towing a flying fish or rubber Ducky went around her but luckily stopped before taking off again. She was spooked for a day or so after that.
We try to kite up wind near the reef and waves but it's a effort to stay upwind with the currents and lighter winds.Plus too shallow at low tides.
We would be keen to try Sanur area for sure next year.Probs July.Where do you stay?
Saw your Gps tracks you did some Klms.
Also noticed a Blue green kite near Serungan kited into river entrance then back out into wave zone.A chopper seemed to be filming the Core kiters in the wave zone.Footage for promotion of the new Core wave kite maybe.
Yes we are keen to kite where there's less water sport action that's for sure.
Thanks
Cheers L & B

G'day L and B,

Sanur is a lot more kite friendly for sure, and can be busier with more kiters but way less crazies on Jetski ect. The lagoon is big enough to find your own little patch of privacy with waves that can suit most styles from big fast dumpy to neat little reforms. Tides can dry out the lagoon too but with a couple channels either side of the lagoon, you can still get out. Having big board and big kite helps. We usually stay at a place called Puri Ayu or Abian Kokoro but there are other places around of similar prices or of course the highend pricey places on the beach if that's your thing.

I actually kited to Nusa Dua twice last year and both times was like taking on peak hour traffic with the crazies everywhere, although the waves out the back were nice,,,, just small relative to Sanur. Serangan can be crazy big on the same day and you definitely got to know what's what so probably why I nearly drowned there,,,,, got caught by lack of power from kite so wave ate me up and spat me out not a moment too soon.

cheers,

Robbie

Hi Robbie, thanks for the info we will probs stay over the Sanur side next year.
We got an all inclusive on the beach at Grand Mirage.Got spoilt rotten there.
Cost an arm & leg.
But traffic wise it's like the Main Street in Denpasar but throw in another dozen or so crazy tourists fangy around on jetski's.
Throw in the Balo's towing in speed boats
Para gliders, flying rubber duckies, banana boats, square rubber sliding things,
Glass bottom boats, and many varied boats ferrying tourists over to the reef edge near river for a form of diving with big heavy helmet called sea walker. So put it all together you have a bloody circus on and underwater.
So throw us in the middle and its panic stations at times until you get upwind away from the mayhem.
Would rather put up with a few extra kiters any day.
I had tourists saying can you teach my daughter kitesurfing.
So the answer was a polite no way.
For the safety of all concerned.
I suggested going to the kite school in Sanur.
Ok Robbie probs see you over that way next year.We will no doubt catch up.
Thanks again
Regards L & B
