Downwinders in the surf anywhere on the Sunshine Coast,
Supa uncrowded,no need to go upwind,
heaps of kickers for boosting,
heaps of waves for carving
Can have supa shallow banks in close near the shore,
Can loop over the beach,
Crystal clear water
Can cruise around an island
Cruising around Headlands
Can cruise up rivers, bit of flat water boosting,
Play in between the shore and the second shorebreak, insane fun
Fast directional changes, boosting ,poping over the shoreys, looping,
Racing across sandbanks as the water drains off and goes dry
Supa flat water between the whitewash
Go downwind for 40 km if you want
Land your kite on the beach ,pack up and catch the bus back to where you started
Relax, have a rest on the bus,
Then pump up and do it all over again
I'm not from the Sunny coast. So, what happens when you jump on the bus with a kite and board, all wet? Does the driver look all happy to see you? Tells you to sit down anywhere to enjoy the ride?? Not being funny, just intrigued. Would be great to have that option in Sydney.
You dont jump on the bus wet and sandy,
By the time you pack up and walk to the bus stop ,your almost dry
fold your kite up and wrap your harness around it with your bar and lines inside,
nice neat little package
There were 7 kiters with all there kites and boards on the bus the other day
take your Gocard they are waterproof
No need to take any money
We get wind but not like in Dongara,
but I wish it was stronger,
mostly 12-25 kts
Would be perfect if it was 32-40 kts twice a week
25-32 kts twice a week
and 18-25 kts twice a week
and 15kts once a week
I like riding different size kites
Sometimes the winds from the North and sometimes from the South
Boosting begins at 30+ knots. Any less and you're really just mowing the lawn. Sunny coast is pretty though, and the surf can be fantastic.
Crystal clear water at the Noosa river mouth is pretty special.
Hey go kid, I'm moving to the sunshine coast next year and I need to make kiting buddies quick.
The Perth crew are awesome!
I have done the Noosa to Old Woman Island downwinder and Cotton tree. Not bad not bad.
I must say the best downwinder in the WORLD is Lanno to Wedge.
You will not find a better 50km kite anywhere, we even have massive sharks.
POW!
Im in Brissy for a month come next week, send me a message if you are keen to kite from Brissy to Noosa.
The best downwinder in Australia Hands down is on the South Coast of W.A. along with the best beaches in Australia.
Cape Le Grand national park all the way along Wylie Bay to Kelpbeds, or pick pretty much any beach east or west of Esperance.
Take your 4x4 and get your missus to drive along the beach with refreshments!!
If you dont believe me next time you fly on a plane fron east to west (or visa versa) look out of the window around Espy and you will see why.
Forgot to mention that Im currently in Agnes Waters , Qld which is one of my next fav places in Oz< some good downwinders here.
Sunshine coast sounds good gokid, whereabouts exactly ? Dunno about Esperence, unless you want to become shark food.
Looks sick Plum, will be heading over to Taranaki early next year some time - hopefully the wind is blowing -
Another really good spot to kite is the northern end of Bribie Island
The wind needs to be SE to ESE, best ESE
Launch at Caloundra Rivermouth and head down along Bribie Island
You may need to tack a bit,or you will run out of ocean and end up on the beach,
I usually go to the lighthouse then turn round and head back ,about 8 km there and back,
Waves are evenly spaced and is supa smooth water between the whitewash and waves
not really a downwinder as you finnish where you start
So many kiters I talk to on the Sunny Coast have been kiting the same place for most of there kiting life
Love downwinders, gold award would go to west coast nz. - 50 - 60km long beaches - no headlands / straight / insane swell and you can drive on the beach on hard packed sand at low ride - take a wetsuit tho..
How much is a ride on the gc tram with a go card?
i would be keen to downwind south straddie island in NE , get dropped off by boat at north end.
