Love downwinders, gold award would go to west coast nz. - 50 - 60km long beaches - no headlands / straight / insane swell and you can drive on the beach on hard packed sand at low ride - take a wetsuit tho..
How much is a ride on the gc tram with a go card?
i would be keen to downwind south straddie island in NE , get dropped off by boat at north end.
Baileys beach, 90 mile beach, muriwai beach, himitangi to paraparumu all awesome down winding beaches. Particularly if you want to rip at full pace and then boost off wave lips. O for awesome!.
But if you want quality waves you wave to leave the sandy beaches behind. They don't even come close to comparing to the naki point breaks down the coast. komene to Fitzroy down winder is absolutely insane.
south arm hobart when it's not fully crowded with sup racers and sharks beating off in the shallows.
Augusta would have to be my fav. Cruse on butter smooth water in the river mouth and then head out into the waves for some carving fun. It is usually windy there during summer all day so you can really kite till you drop. Need to wear a camelback just to survive.
Favourite place for Kitesurfing?
No question - the stunning aquamarine lagoons of Bora Bora, Tikehau atoll, Maupiti or Rangiroa atoll (all in French Polynesia) during the Trade Winds season. (Or any atoll/lagoon/island in FP during the TradeWinds)
Reason? Incredibly stunning place, stunning water, consistent reliable TradeWinds and the people.
My very first KiteSurfing experience was Kitesurfing at Matira Point on Bora Bora with Alban.
My +1 did her first Kitesurfing experience (tandem but totally full on) with a local Kitesurfing legend called Tamatoa near Teahupoo - great!
