I was pretty good at Poling, could rip it up in mast high waves etc.

Took up kiting, that was it! Just stopped using the pole dancing gear and try to get out kiting whenever I can. I prefer surf, but if its flat water, well, thats good as well.

Been doing it for a couple of years now,but I am pretty hopeless at it !
I don't care,its TOO good !

Greenleader, that scared me for quite a while, but now I am over it I think it was really well put.

Bi-windsurfers should ride their poledancing gear on the epic days.....leave the kite in the bag.
I don't need anymore strings in-my-face when I'm cranking a bottom turn.

I do have a question though... Why hasnt Scott Mc or Matt Holden or Ben Severne converted fully to kiting???

Hey Greenroom,

Fact of the matter is Ben Severne and Matt Holder do probably kite more than they sail. They just choose to sail when the swell and wind is up (which isn't as often as poleys would like ). As for Scotty, he's a full time porn star when it comes to poling, why would he start from scratch when he's paid to pole?

Robby Naish was 5 times world champ and he kites more than he sails, did he get out because he wasn't any good? It's more that the conditions for good poling happen once every blue moon where good kiting conditions happen daily.

There's your reason. Good luck to you whatever your propulsion, I admire those that can do both well. I just can't afford to kite and pole.

Good winds,

Are you shure Robby Naish kites more than he windsurfs? and more importantly do you think they enjoy windsurfing or kitesurfing more?????

Why would Casey Stoner drive a V8 Supercar?
Just like why would Scotty fly a kite?

Its just like comparing apples to oranges.

If a chess player wanted to play chess but couldnt find the pieces would he play checkers instead?

If I was asked to play cricket I'd say no because I dont like cricket.

As we all know what ever we do we do it because we can

But you most likely wont see him riding a bike full time? Cars are his thing yeah?

as a surfer now mostly kiter, what u say is right still large element of getting pulled along rather than surfing. With so much going on its always going to be hard if not impossible for kiters to get deep tubes and come out like surfers, so much going on. Having said that i'll probably see some 10 yr old post his tube ride on u tube - then ill feel like a right fkn kook

You watched The Unknow Road with Ben Wilson? He rides deep in the tube in that.

Life was so much simpler when kites were kept in the closet .

i used to be a windsurfer but changed to kiting because i liked the wakeboarding aspect of the sport and it was alot better for marginal wind (which it usually is here) I am glad i changed becuase it is hardly ever windy enough for me to windsurf anymore, but if its going off im keen for sure. im thinking of going to maui for some real wind and windsurfing conditions again soon, last time i was on 3.7m's everyday for a month, screw kiting in that.

p.s. windsurfing still owns over kiting in the waves, three words "The windsurfing movie" check it.

Life was so much simpler when pole dancing was restricted to dark, seedy clubs frequented by balding middle aged men .

Geez if you've got the time and the money why not.
Just be careful kiting with your windsurfing mates as you may become a gybe marker
Once you've gone to the dark side let me know why the boardshorts are on the outside ?
I tried kiting once but didn't have the patience or finesse.
Same reason I gave up Ballet dancing

Because they stop your expensive wet-suit from being ruined by your harness.

sounds like a flat out lie to me, i think its just because kiters have a small package in general.
