Thanks for the posts Godfrey and I also commend you for having the patience to actually read froth goths verbal diarrhoea posts

Yes, nice to see some actual information coming out on here, at last!
I just hope the OP has been able to recognise all the other sh** for what it is.
And maybe that Frothy guy should get off the keyboard for a change, and just get out enjoying the great sports that he's so incredibly accomplished at (apparently).

Incase anyone on this forum chooses to believe a word the poster "FrothGoth" says anymore, this is the type of person he is. He just sent me an unsolicited PM as below. He has no shame to defame someone and their business from behind the anonimity of a screen name. He obviously has some serious issues. The forum Mods should consider their position on this sort of member and his online behaviour.

Didnt want to post anymore like personal stuff on the open

case in point... seabreeze is 4chan for the over 50 year olds bit of a wild west with conspiracy theorys etc alot of trolling etc

So i like to pepper in a few red herrings and falsehoods amongst the storeys to keep it somewhat less traceable (oldmate lawyer broken legs was really just 1 broken ankle (low cut running shoes on training hill i forgot what year it was) but i did have to help carry him around a bit and i definitely poured a bunch of suger on him so he didnt try like sue etc to speak kinda laid it onto him just how many people call your place home for months at a time etc etc and i feel that really changed the direction of his thinking at the time. )

And yeah still bloody terrible about the other stuff i talk to young tighe a fair bit.

Anyways didnt mean to defame etc etc only real problem is i cant edit or delete posts cause laurie (site owner) has a bit of a rule about everything remaining forever (hence the red herrings)

Hello all,

Thank you for showing interest in the paragliding (PG) simulation game:

I C A R U S

*

SUMMER 2024 NEWS UPDATE
The focus in 2024 has been to gather user feedback for the beta version of ICARUS. It has been great to see 25x play tester requests so far.

Last week I took a quick demo reel (Youtube video link below) with some high drag settings (attached) which you can load to try for yourself. Further details are below and attached.

NEW DOCUMENTS
Based on some feedback via email and demo events here in Sydney Australia, I have drafted the GETTING STARTED + FEATURE REQUESTS documents (attached).

For example, the keys used to control the game were shown at the top-left (snip below), but the camera controls were not explained. They are now provided in the GETTING STARTED document.

Key controls - as shown at top-left in-game.

NEXT STEPS
The ongoing challenge for ICARUS is to find in-game physics settings that will result in realistic glide telemetry figures, which get shown at the top-right of screen (snip below).

Glide telemetry figures (example) - as shown at top-right in-game.

YOUR HELP PLEASE - TO FIND THE PERFECT SETTINGS!
Your help would be much appreciated to play the game + explore the range of settings (snip below). The goal is the sink rate of about -2 m/s with a forward speed of about 10 m/s or 35 k.p.h.

Note that ICARUS has been designed to allow for settings to be be changed in-game, to get direct feedback on the results.

Settings available to explore - as shown at bottom-left in-game.

HOW TO SHARE SETTINGS
Good settings can be shared with others by pressing the N key in-game to save them to file. This will create two INI (text) files next to the paragliding executable (exe) file as shown below.

You can send these two INI files to someone else. When they copy/paste these INI files into their paragliding exe folder, the settings can then be loaded by pressing the M key in-game.

Settings files will get saved next to the exe file location - as shown in Windows file explorer.

FEEDBACK WELCOME
If you do find some interesting settings, please feel free to send along your two INI files (shown above) by reply email to myself.

Thanks again for your interest in ICARUS. Have fun exploring the settings. Please encourage your PG friends to help by exploring the settings too!

Be sure to stay safe for the summer flying season in Europe, or whereever you might be

Cheers,
Kurt.

Oh man. That headland is identical to Burleigh heads.... unfortunately it's inside the Great Barrier Reef, so not much swell makes its way through .
I day dream every day about what that point would look like if we didn't have the reef blocking the swell

I cant believe this! Noe beat Pal Takats in a task!!! Thats INSANE!!

To put that into perspective thats like a first timer to the pkra beating hadlow or the lion back in the day sure its just for one heat but still pretty wild

Biiiiig confidence boost cant wait for him to make some knotfuture paragliding videos we have enough lads in the air now

Speaking of which did my course with keahi not sure if anyone seen his recent MONSTER of a drop in on that huge wave but i would hassle him a little after a few years asking him why he isnt flying much anymore etc etc and essentially the response was because of self preservation!

Let me find a photo of that recent BOMB so you can see where the self preservation margins are at!

P?l Tak?ts won't be on the start line
Published on
19 June 2024
2024, Pal Takats, race_incident, Sergio Toro
Only a few days before race start, team P?l Tak?ts/Sergio Toro have announced they will not be able to compete in the race. P?l is a rookie to the race, having come from the acro world, via cross-country races to compete in the hike & fly scene. He was 4th in the 2023 X-Alps and a hot contender for this edition of the X-Pyr.

In his own words

"Timo has left us for his final and eternal flight last Friday and I'm still struggling to find peace with this new reality.I have lost other friends in the past and even though we were not close, for some reason this hit me really profound.Maybe because I knew him since he was a small kid, maybe because I know his lovely parents, maybe because he was way too young, too skilled and talented, maybe because recently I already felt disillusioned with high level competitions, maybe because in that situation it could have happened to any of us pro pilots.Probably it is just all of it together. I cannot imagine the pain of his parents, partner and closest friends and my thoughts and prayers are with them all the time
I'm raising many questions to myself about life and my passion of paragliding as I lost all the motivation to fly right now. After days of battling emotions, I came to the conclusion that I'm simply not in the right headspace for any demanding, high-level flying so therefore I cancel my participation in the @xpyrrace . It was a very though decision but since I was already in doubt, I guess it was the right one. I am lucky to still be alive after 2-3 really close calls during more than two decades of pushing hard in different disciplines and sports. Maybe this is the wake up call and slap in the face to start appreciating this fact more and to reflect on what is important in life.
C?us azuis Timo, abrazos fortes e fortaleza familia querida"

P?l was a late entry to the race, but we could not refuse such a great athlete and pilot. We wish him well and hope we see him in the 2026 edition.

Well that certaintly dampened my spirits a bit....
I couldnt fathom how pal coulda been knocked out so early figured it was an airspace disqualification but yea.... unfortunately not. Its not easy looseing ya mates.

I think its important to try to understand some of the words pal said that i have been trying to get across.

It can happen to anyone, anytime, even the best pilots.

Anyways hopefully young shane and toledo stay safe up there ay

I am late to this thread but have found it all very interesting and relevant as I think about these hobbies and safety factors lots so thanks for the discussion. Personally I have kited for ages, done some gliding (sailplane) years ago, have raced foil kites for a couple of years and got PG2 paraglider license two years ago. I was hoping that the many hours on foil kites would help with paragliding and making it more safe as I have some feel for "active flying"/keeping your wing open when bad things happen. But I have found some of the limitations mentioned in this thread, its hard to get air-time living in Perth and even with a big fat easy beginner/intermediate paraglider there is still a big chance of collapse which you can limit by flying very sensibly which means limiting air-time and fun. Also beginner gliders are fat and don't have good penetration limiting wind range and fun factor and making it a slow process to get experience and improve feel which is part of flying safely, so its hard to progress based here, even when I've already got loads of hours with paraglider style kites and ground handling. I haven't written paragliding off but I'm starting to think hang gliding might be a better option for me if all the factors line up. But also I am still keen to try a mullet/mustache but need more airtime before safely doing that. Those para-kites are much more like the race-kites I am familiar with so I should have a head start there. A kite-racer overseas has been even using race kites (ozone R1's) and converting them as an alternative and they look great www.instagram.com/evankruger8?igsh=MTNiYzNiMzkwZA%3D%3D

So even though I've got a few paragliders and some airtime now and some skills I still don't fly often enough. I've had a good look at hang gliding due to a few factors including being able to fly in stronger conditions, no collapses of the soft wing and I suspect being more fun and the type of flying i want to do. Someone else has done all the safety comparison analysis based on death rates etc, its still dangerous, but some stats are twisted and the stats do show hang gliding as being safer but not lots. My personal view is that in reality hang gliding can be practiced in a relatively safe way regularly and with a fun way of flying. As such I have started by hang gliding license and will be finished in August. There is still lots of driving involved and costs are moderate compared to other sports I do which are expensive (like kitefoil racing, cars/motorbikes, downhill racing, backcountry snow etc.). At this stage I'm happy to get the skills and license and buy a glider when I am ready as I'm sure I'll be hang gliding in future, especially as I get more time as kids get older etc.

Another factor is thinking about the future of these sports, just as foildrive is changing the game I'm sure the electric motor/battery advances are going to change free-flying and I'm keen to be invovled especially where these can add safety and options/fun. The other thing to consider is doing a few of these things, but obviously hard to juggle the gear, skills and time, but good fun if you can manage to do a few of them, makes for an interesting trip to the alps.

Very cool to hear of someone going from paragliders to hanggliding its almost exactly like a kiter going to windsurfing not something you ever see really so good luck with ya course matey everythings got its pros and cons and its all on a bit of a slideing scale so im sure youve had a good hard look at them all before forking out the time and dosh let us know how ya get on with it

Oh

And if you want to see a paraglider whose flying with kites one the original OGs of that game has to be "flyingcloclo" give him a bit of a google or a youtube maaaany many many years before any mullets or moustaches were on the scene
