Never seen a broken slingshot? Jeez, I know one guy who broke 3 circa 13'-16' T rex/Angry Swallow...the ones with the funky graphics. I could probably break one by looking at it the wrong way...

I broke a 147cm Slingshot Drake, but they warrantied it and gave me a newer model SX! Awesome guy's and products. No dramas!
You don't know Shot!

Love it...

Read that the Libs are breaking and no warranty if kited with. Those hybrid build boards look fun (Jester etc.) and I'm sure they are strong, but I should have specified that the board has to work in legit waves too. I have a hard time believing a custom would be stronger than the tuflite reinforced with 2X carbon and 4X S-glass that I just put my foot through (without being too heavy to enjoy), but I could be wrong. Not a risk I'm willing to take to spend that kind of money to "see how it goes".

Anyway, did the usual and found a neglected board with busted fin boxes and tons of dings, bought dirt cheap, resurrected and ridden twice already. So far so good, when it breaks I'll continue the search... I do love the MPH boards from Tomo, they have some magic going on. Interested in checking out the new construction that's coming out for the Firewire boards, supposed to be pretty tough. Amundson has a jumping model too that's built in a twin tip type construction, interested in having a look at that one too.

Here's this one all cleaned up, she was beat up but structurally sound. Kind of nasty yellowing, oh well.

That's a mad looking Vanguard with the upside down front deck grip, if you like the VG you will absolutely love the FW Vader & Evo.
But as far as strength/weight goes I think my Sunova Vader has the edge in construction over FW - had it two seasons now & hardly a heel dent but rocks are another story.
Since I got my Evo, I haven't ridden my Sunova but I have no doubt it's lighter & stronger.

I'll throw in a plug for vendeavours, my Smook takes a beating. In line with some of the comments above, i reckon something with PU blank, thick stringer, full deck pad and a decent amount of glass is hard to go wrong. (I only weigh 70kg - but I do have a knack of breaking boards though)

Yeah its funny all the different brands/board being pimped here I have seen/heard of at least a couple broken for each type of one.

At the end of the its a balance between strength/weight/flex you cannot have it all.

Hey Pearl, the video looked impressive but if you read the comments there's several posts from users that shed,s a different light.

yep seemed a bit too good to be true, sticking with the FW's for now

OK picked up another board... Vanguard is holding up but I'm a bit worried about the fin box repairs eventually failing and becoming a pain. Ended up test driving and then taking home a 2017 Cab Spade, the Cab surfboards shed a lot of weight from the last two years while still feeling pretty strong. This board wasn't really on my radar but I'm glad it was recommended. Fuller outline, fast rocker, but still some good surf-ability. Still frothing to get on a Vader, everyone tells me if I like the vanguard I'll love it. I'll post some follow up after putting some hard sessions on the Spade.

Did you give the squid launcher a go, I've got one in my quiver and pretty happy with it. Probably more volume than a Spade.

I was going to give the squid launcher a go too, it looks crazy fun...honestly I kinda fell in love with that spade right off the bat so I didn't want to even try anything else. Had a good long powered up day on the Spade today, that thing just wants to jump. I feel like I can always get that rail in too, even really powered. On the Vanguard it would start getting really hard to hold the edge to get a proper load up on the jumps. I'm sure the Vader is killer, more rocker and a tighter tail. I'm going to ride the spade as far into the winter as I can, I am curious to see where it tops out for wave size. Feels like a few feet overhead and under it will shred.

Not to crap on about customs too much, but the difference I've found between a decent custom and a stock board is chalk and cheese. Perhaps it's because they make a production board for very wide range of people kooks and alike, but in comparison, at times they feel like there is something wrong.

I know what you mean bjw, I think a lot of problems with production boards start with the fact that it's not sized specifically for you. I think I've been lucky and ended up on stuff that works for me, but I'm a pretty average size dude.
