While kiting at Redcliffe, Qld last week. On my second run out i was following a girl we kite with. Just as she turned to head back in, a shark about 5ft long came spinning out of the water (thinking it was a spinner shark) only meters behind her. It spun the **** out of me to think what would have happened if she didnt turn back in.
During one afternoon session in QLD with a South African friend, we were checked out by some of the local wildlife. He was not familar with the beast and after the session he held his hands about 400mm apart and excitedly asked me, "Did you see that creature, it had a head this wide, ugly face and whiskers!"
I calmly replied, "judging by your description, that was either a dugong, or my mother-in-law"
6 years ago when I was a total noob I lost my brand new board about 50m out at pinnas. I just couldn't get back upwind enough at the time and away it went.
I lost sight of it and then walked the coast from pinnas all the way down to ocean reef looking for it.
I got to the Ocean reef harbour and spotted my red board about 30m out.
I swam out over the reef to it and found that it wasn't my board.
I started walking back to Pinnas with it and the owner found me and gave me $40 for finding it.
When I got back to pinnas someone from Mullaz had handed in my board to DM and then I passed on the $40 I was given to the finder, yay!
Had what I thought was a yellow fin tuna fly right out of the water a couple of metres ahead of me at kiting Flozzer once. Was chunky as and coulda wiped me right out if it hit me in the noggin.
Back in my 1st season in 2004 at Pinnaz i saw a Euro dude demo-ing kites and he kept launching, heading out for 15 mins or so then back in to land, change over and repeat. Spectactular.
Oh.. did I forget to mention his absolutely stacked uber-hot topless girlfriend kept jumping up and running back and forth to land his kites?
Good times.
