This is not only a terrible tragedy for our marine life and coastline, but it is also a tragedy for small business on the Sunshine Coast. We are coming into the Easter period and as this problem is not just going to go away in a couple of weeks, these businesses will suffer as well. Holiday-makers wanting to go to the beach for their break will now go further north or south to the Gold Coast.

I just can't believe that whoever was/is in charge let this ship come up here in those conditions. I hope they ALL go down for this.

The pictures I have seen of the beautiful beaches covered in crap and the pelicans black with oil made me feel sick.

Hope things get cleaned up quickly, but that will only make it visually clean, marine damage to the ocean and rivers is already done.

So fkn sad

Oh well that's put Qld off my holiday list this year. I was kind of getting sick of all the rain and dead coral up north there anyway - time for a change and explore the pristine waters in Tas and WA.

I'm sure some team of experts will sort it all out in time - they always do!

All we can do is do what we can. Go to the beach with a bucket and clean, organise mates and volunteers, and F-N vote GREEN! Expect to have to clean your feet, lines, board and kite for a good long time. Baby oil works alright.... Bloody hell.............

no they don't.look at the evidence .The response was pathetic to say the least .the govt believed that the spill was 'minor' when informed by the owners of the ship (just like the govts of the world believed the filthy lieing bankers and their ratings agency cohorts who said that this global financial mess was a small blip and world governments and shareholders have allowed these ****ers to reward themselves with massive bonuses over the years as they took higher and higher the risks, but hey who asks questions when everyones swimming in money, plasma screens and mc mansions!) The area around the spanish spill is still a mess .Anyone that believes that the 'experts will sort it out " is a fool .Buckets and spades WTF!!

i say get the buckets and put it on the 'experts ' heads and then hit the buckets with the spades to knock some sense into them

the impact will be far less than u think, this is fuel oil not crude, as seen it is already disappearing.
And if you think voting green helps u r deluded, they are already in power via labor backdoor deals, WTF has the EPA done about this????

This morning there were quite a few surfers out from Maroochy mouth and south towards Alex surfclub, so it can't be too bad.

The beach at the Maroochy launch area looked normal so I reckon you could rig up and get going without getting your kit dirty.....but there no wind right now......

I'd be really upset if it happened in my backyard. My cynical and self centred comments on the tragedy were more about the hopelessness of the situation.

I mean what is the solution to it now that it's happened? All the lamenting and blaming isn't going to make it go away or stop it from happening again. It's a very sad thing. Sounds like buckets spades and time is the only solution.

Apparently you can't kite anywhere on the sunshine coast for the next year atleast, sorry to all tourists that had planned holidays here.
And the oil has attracted schools of sharks and box jelly fish to the area.
Even our deadly sea snakes have become more aggressive.
sorry about that guys.

What about the slick at Coolum on the rocks and the destruction of the resident anenomes, crabs, chitons, sea cucumbers etc etc. Take a look on the webcam on Swellnet.com.au This is not just a shovel up the sand caper and back to normal in a few days. Pathetic response by the govt and a long term recovery for Pt Arkwright if it is as bad as it looks on the camera. Where is the rapid response continency plan which should have come with the extremely well-developed and community consulted plan for the Moreton Bay Marine Park? Ah ! the politicians and their their groupies all full of ****.

All the foreshore at Coolum is real mess. There is oil all the way up to the highest high tide mark. The rocks are usually a deep red. Now they are black as...... Still lost of oil in the water so it ain't over yet. Yeah, voting green is symbolic only I admit.

No its not ,its time to jump up and down and make a noise and don't just go voting for LNP, those ****ers are just as inept as the rest of them .BRING ON THE REVOLUTION .If we do nothing and cop it sweet expect more of the same malignant mediocrity that leads to this kind, of and may i quote the PM here, "****storm"

(i don't believe it the PM says it and its not OK here ,OK rhymes with spitstorm)

i doubt the LNP would make a difference. the maritime needs to come in fix this from happening again. surely the captain of the ship knew what he was sailing in to. the adventurer isn't really that bad of a ship compared to other rust bucket cargo ships going around aus. it was the captain and his monkey crew who are at fault. my guess is that the containers were not secured properly by the crew. these ships are made to withstand big seas. i doubt the captain will sail again after this. hope your beaches clear up soon. it's a sad thing to happen
