Flee, run/swim for your lives!
I recommend that everyone steer well clear of Woodies due to the massive risk!
(I'm looking forward to no parking hassles and an empty beach ;)
If you really want to freak out, check the WA Surf Lifesaving Twitter feed. They are spotting heaps, now they are looking for them.

Interesting you say that westozwind I was watching a dock on Nat Wild the other night on the supposed shark epidemic in Sydney. They caught and tagged 11 Bullsharks in Sydney Harbour in one night and tracked them. They are there all the time weather we want to believe it or not and most of the time not that far from what we are doing. I don't quite get the shark histeria that exists???.personally I am terrified of being attacked by a shark every time I get in the water but statistically I should be more terrified in getting in my car every time I want to go kiting. We can believe what we want to but most shark attacks are random acts made out of curiosity and nothing more???.they are not human killers, they are fish we just happen to be in the water and thats where they are???.

So sick of people bangin on about sharks! Yeah guys, they're out there. They are with you every session without fail. Get over it.

You have more chance of dying when you get in the car to go to work, but we don't see people crapping on about car accidents on forums do we.

I've seen plenty of sharks down at beach 1 already this season. I don't think anyone really kids themselves at Woodies, everyone knows its a sharky area. With all the noobs body dragging around out there i feel fairly safe anyhow.

Who cares. This has nothing to do with kiteboarding pal

This shark was caught about half a km from Woodman point, 60 to 70 people out every day, tueros, lost eastern staters. I am sure everyone there would appreciate the info.
This is related to kitesurfing pal.

And it's on the General Thread, not in the WA thread!

There used to be a Fishing Thread on Seabreeze if I recall?

Bee stings kill more people in Australia each year than sharks. Is the WA government going to cull bees too?

I hope they removed the shark and didn't kiss it and throw it back in....

A lot of people are anti culling and no animal should die in vein. Their meat should be used and the sharks that are deep in the ocean need be left alone.

People deserve to utilize our coastline and have prominent threats removed. People must come first, family friendly species second (including great white food of dolphins, sea turtles, rays and seals), and man eaters third.

This is a great step by WA government...

Secondly, I was doing a backroll kiteloop at beach 3 last Tuesday the 3rd of November, and looked at the water as I lifted a meter off it during the backroll and saw a perfect 2m shark shadow underneath me in 1.5 metre deep water with the shark 60cm or so below the surface and was VERY happy to land and kite away.

I know he was PROBABLY minding his own business, but again less sharks = less risk for innocent people who share common ground with them. Our place is close to shore and their place is deeper at sea.

From an anglers perspective its actually not a bad shore based noah really. I've caught a few bronzies that size off the northern suburbs beaches and they are great fun.

I've hooked some monsters along the south west and around Shark Bay and even after an hour, you've really got no chance landing them.

Ammo jetty has always been reliable for sharks that size

Kids and people in general have always jumped and swim off that jetty and the other on to the north as well, the new surf life saving club has kids and heaps of people swimming off the beach in front - they have no problem doing it. Seen this happen for years.

I have dived (scuba) under there - its a good shore dive spot. Did not see sharks but the fish life there would definitely bring them into that area.

I've kited woody's for over 12 years - have seen many shark shaped shadows in the water over that time, try not let it get to me.

About 2005 or 2006 a mate and myself were lucky enough to catch a good breeze mid day mid week at woody's but we both packed our gear up after seeing a very large fin breaching the surface for over 20 mins or so off the south tip off the point about 50 meters. Just saying.

I think about it when ever I am out in or on the water, I am convinced they are there for sure. It's not going to stop me going in the water whether they catch them or not.

If Bruce thinks its my time then that's fine it will be my time.

Agreed Dave.

do you alarmist types realise people catch sharks off the beach in WA every night of the week?
And a tiger will not normally go for people and this one is small?

FFS stop scaremongering.

So maybe get rid of the WA forum and just keep your posting WA specific stuff here? And then we can stop bothering to come here.

This is not news to anyone who has used Woodies for any length of time, its ok dont worry about, i worry about it enough for everyone, but i still go in the water fully aware of the risk. Shark sighting are super common at Woodies.

They used to swim the bait out from that jetty years ago, they dont anymore, either people are a bit smarter these days or the fisho's know something we dont. I would imagine as soon as there are 5-10 crew skimming across the top of the water the noahs would be long gone anyway, hopefully.

sorry for the misunderstanding, I will attempt to make it clearer (are you sure that you are not from Tassie?)

We own the forum, all of them, with more wind, more comps ,more kiters, more waves, more stores....

Laurie must have felt sorry for you eventually so he gave you a VIC forum.

Now, be quiet or we will take it away from you

This wa ownership of seabreeze is actually payback for Victoria owning the footy when it's supposed to be a national comp. apologies to nsw, qld, tasisie, sa etc. Wa doesn't get to dominate much except supporting the Australian economy :)
