Do not believe the guys from StKilda. They are not from Victoria.
And Grueezi's right, the victorian events (excepting the KB Extravagantza which was an exceptionally well organized event) were killed in victoria, by th PUBLIC LIABILITY NIGHTMARE.
So, watch out for the little lady on the beach, if your kite will cast it's shade on her, se'll sue you for destroing her life, as her tan was uneven on her legs, her frinds gossiped about and destroyed her reputation of "perfect tanned girl" so she'l ask for AUD 1,000,000 damages for psihologist and skin surgeon costs.
Do you thing that's stupid?
I don't

Now come on Silviu, they are from Victoria. They may have been mutated by the "soup" at St Kilda, but there still Victorian's.

Hmmmm, hang on, I kite at Altona a lot and it's more chemical than St Kilda, Damn, "the penny just dropped"..."that's where the extra toes came from.

Heres a clue!

I like things that say KITE CLINIC or KITE GEAR DEMO.

I dont like things that say KITE COMPETITION.

the vast majority of us are recreational kiters.

AKSA and KBV seems to be pretty irrelevent to what I do!

So let me guess Dan OK: you are a cinic or a very old man?
'Cause even I am getting excited by worlds like COMPETITION, or DOWNWINDER, or FREE EXPRESSION SESSION or ....
Or are you afraid or just shy?

I'd be interested in helping out, but due the fact that I work afternoon and evening shifts; I’m only available on weekends for any meetings that may be required. Shift work is good money, but the social sacrifices suck.

I'd say I'm in the Dan OK? category and like the idea of a social down winder, but not so much a race.
I thank KBV for organising the last down winder (race), but I couldn’t see the point with the amount of kites that participated of going like a cut cat, to end up in small area that is over congested.

Geee, I hope he(Dan OK) is not considered an old man Silviu, if Dan's profile is correct, I've got nearly ten years on him, that'd put me into fossil territory.

Unlike you to want to be in a crowded environment Silviu.

When I am kitesurfing, I don't care how bussy is the 200m streep to the beach (the "death corridor")
I launch, go in the water and head stright out far, sometime crossing the navigation channel.
I have all the bay to myself, in very few occasions, the odd pair of dolphins are checking on me than go.
Sometimes the iachts are passing me and wave their hands, and I wave back.
One or two hours of real relaxation and serenity after a hard working day or week.
I have to cross again "the corridor of death" only when I come back and land.
This is why I have few gadgets with me always: mobile in the water pack, the GPS and a super light iet super bright flashlite.

As for a new club, association or else, I am ready to give a hand when I will recover after the surgery.

Good luck.

Hey Silviu that hurt cause Im a long time fan of yours. Sob! Sob!

You know if the wind is on somewhere Im there whatever. Im not waiting for someone else to organise me, organise something for me to do.

For every competition theres a winner and a heap of loosers, they all got to sit on the beach all day waiting for there heats watching everyone else ride waiting there turn.

My aims are
1. Have fun
2. Spend more time on the water
3. To progress and learn new stuff
4. Find new equipment that helps with points 1,2 and 3.

I figure then 3 and 4 is all I need help with.

Here then is my 2 cents:

Demo/come and try days supported by the lazy reps who try to sell their gear in shops based on how shiny the board is and whether the guy behind the counter liked it!

A noobie club to support the guys who have had their 2 lessons and then are unleeshed on the public beaches of victoria.

Intermediate clinics, including public safety, rules and where not to try tricks.

Introduction to wave kiting, who has right of way etc

Social weekends away to kite new beaches.

These things could all be offered at a price or as part of an increased yearly fee.

If i want to go down wind i will thanks anyway.
And I prefer riding with my mates not against them!

Sounds like there is a litte support around. I, like you guys, just want to spend more time in the water, I'm not particualrily interested in competions or races etc, but I found it hard find new mates or crew to ride with. Also, it is easier to progress when you ride with better riders who can help point out what your doing right/wrong etc, if we had a resonable size group, you could always arrange to meet some friendly faces down the beach. Also for random trips down to the ocean (cause we all love the real surf), or silly ideas like catching the train to geelong with kite, wetty, backpack with pump and some sandiwches and kiting back to the big smoke.

Anyway, I'm prepared to some admin etc to get a solid group of people dedicated to fun, downwinders, beach trips, clincs (if someone with a clue wants to lend a hand) bbqs or fisbee sessions when the wind is dead.

So, what do we think of `The Melbourne Average Kiters Organisation or MAKO, for short. Get all those shark lovers thinking over time... He He

Inverloch, this weekend, shouldnt need to book as no public holiday.
Tent caravan whatever newbies, intermediates, Gurus with patience to teach the rest of us, social weekend not based on grog.
Cancel Thursday night if no wind.
Whos in?

MMM, I'll be in, heard that its really flat down there, in an easterly you can apparently surf between waves and flat water. I'm going to look at google earth.

The caravan park opposite the main launch site has great cabins, stayed there last year for a weekend,I think it was about $70 for the night and sleeps 4, or the foreshore campsite(tent's)is next to the site.

When it's on at Inverloch, 'it's on"

Didn't wantit to hurt you, I was just joking
If you get started organising this MAKO think, just keep me please posted. Sounds fun, so I will be interested.
Remember last year the "social meets" at Palmerston Arms? That was nice, but Azza left for the hot Perth, and all was forgoten.
BBQ, beach sesions, downwinders and "social meets", that suit me verry well.

Cheers

Spent 6 months in London, and met a number of very sociable kiters whilst there through the forum. Being in London - had to drive for about 2 hours to get to the beach, so normally car shared. Also had regular tuesday night kite drinks.

What did this mean? A like minded group of people, to either head to the beach or away for a weekend, or just to head to the pub with.

I put my support fully behind a Melbourne Kiteboarding club.

Cant make Inverloch this weekend, but hope all have fun.

Sunday 13th February between 2pm-7pm

KBV are running a casual comp during St Kilda Festival.

After a break in 2006, the St Kilda Festival is back - and it should be bigger than ever. The last St Kilda Festival in 2005 saw a massive crowd of 300,000 people cruising around St Kilda during the event. This year kiting will be a major event for the crowd to admire and we will get huge exposure. Details will be confirmed closer to the event - but at this stage there will be two divisions in extended expression session heats.

There will be no cost to join the event but you will need to register. All KBV members are encouraged to enter the comp but if you don’t feel like riding come and join in the festivities.

Please register by email to committee@kbv.org.au and nominate your age category.

Cool, great to see some more support. Hey jev7337, that website is great, didn't know about that one, i found a beach that sounds nice near where i grew up in western vic, at killarney, near warrnambool. I was down there recently but didn't go, cause i didn't know. bummer. Its got 1 sq km inside a reef, then waves outside...

Anyway, see you on the weekend hopefully.

I'm in, inverloch looks great on the reviews.. So I'll be heading down on saturday morning, living in brunswick I'll be doing a pass through the SE burbs of melbourne, if anyone wants a ride...

Also, is it time to declare the formation of 'MAKO'... I think so.

Re: the name, must of had a second of clarity to make up that one, but remember the long name 'Melbourne Average Kiters Org', so it can be cool, MAKO, or humiliating to other riders when they see how good we are, but still call ourselves average. There a message in there somewhere.

Sea breeze says yes Sat arvo and all day Sunday at this stage.

www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/vic.asp

If your up in the air about whether to come do if you possibly can!

A social club means we get everyone whos interested to submit a possible event at their known spots.

If an idea suits the weekend winds it will be posted here Wed. If we dont get not enough people by Friday we cancel it.

This could mean downwinders/Surf Beach sessions/Beach BBQs/Weekends away/Secret Spots/Newbie support and anything else anyone thinks will suit.
That spot youve been wanting to go out at but not by yourself.
Like dial a friend

I also figure if we get enough kiters on the one windy beach on a regular basis the "good kite" shops would see the value in demoing some of their gear

Right there it is.

If this is a rubbish idea manicskier came up with it.
If its not manicskier came up with it

OK, looks like we might be getting some good wind for the weekend. I'm looking forward to meeting you all, I think I've talked to a few of you guys before... Anyway.

And yeah, totally agree with dan OK, a regular weekend trip away kiting, different spots, good people (well I hope you are), should be an excellent time.

Maybe, all those below, and others who are interested in future events could PM me with their email address so we can do final arrangements offline... and then also have a MAKO group email (and of course post the details on here to notify others). What do you think. I might also start a new thread dedicated to this weekends inverloch trip.

Also, another question, of those who are planning come does anyone have a spare/old board, a buddy of mine lost his board this week at brighton beach, would be great if he could loan one, and come down this weekend.

Woooh, I'm excited.

We need some more details like a little map with the meeting point.
At this stage it looks OK for me to attend on Saturday, just waiting for some decisions to be made regarding my surgery.
