SUP is not only waves.. I'm sure that Flat water SUP is already bigger then SUP in the wave!

No wind, no waves, what's the point of that?

Not every place in the world have waves!!! What they should do shot themselves in the head...

There are about 600.000 surfer in the world

Seems a conservative estimate, I'm sure there were more guys than that hassling the peak at Chungu last time I checked it there.

I think you mean Canggu... Yes is getting ridiculous busy and that is why I don't surf there!!!!
Regarding the numbers.. Yes it sounded also to me conservative but the person that told me should be quite knowledgeable. Maybe you can find some other estimate?? The point is that Rowers outnumber surfer almost 4 to 1... And while I don't see why all surfer should like SUP.. Jeez I hope not!!! I can see why most of the Rowers would like it.. Better standing then sitting down or on your knee (canadian canoe)..
SUP give a more complete work out and is more fun even in flat water..
I know as I use to do canoeing and I will pick up a SUP any day of the week to a canoe...
Bye Jankie

No, no need to shoot themselves Jankie.

Yep, Canggu and Perenian is it? Last time I went there (2004 I think) I could have walked over the surfers to get out the back.

I surfed Bingin (one of my all time favorite waves) in 1989 for 2 weeks straight with no more than 8 guys in the water, and, get this, we were giving each other set waves. They were the days.

Keep up the SUP Jankie, it sounds like you enjoy it and it's doing you good.

Cheers Mate.

SUP in surf will end up the being the big come back for Goat Boats for entry levels. Meaning if one finds trying to balance on a SUP is too changing then try Goat Boats similar to - if you can not ride a short surfboard go for a knee/boogie board.

The main objective is just have fun ignore the red thumbs as they generally critise and do not try what they knock

It's a nice Bingin wave, wouldn't say it's my best Indo shot, it's hard to pick a 'best' one.

This is a solid day at outside Ulu

But I'm assuming you've paid 50,000rp for one that trumps them.

Or do you ride a sup?

Still no pics puffy,
You don't ride a boogie board do you?
Cause, yeah, I wouldn't show pics of that either.

Kinda like jumpin a fat chick, or riding a motor scooter, bit of fun, but you don't want anyone to know.

Look closely, you will see the nose out of the water having just 'pearled', a term not often heard these days referring to the droplets of water that look like pearls when the nose momentarily dives under the water before resurfacing on a late drop.

so did you turn into a ho-dad after that and go down the mine or did you hot-dog it down the curl into a nice soul arch?

It's hard to correlate a shot with a specific wave after a session. I did eat it on a few that day, but not on any take offs, it's just a late drop.

I'm getting old, but not old enough to understand what some of that means, sorry.

No worries puffy lid, one day you might stand up, or do you already do that thing where you put your front flippered foot on the shark biscuit and your knee on the back cause that is super radical. Got any shots of that to show us?

translation (probably unnecessary but anyway )
hodad
(circa 1950's) A poser (faker) surfer. kook
One who drives to the beach with a board on the car, sticks his board in the sand and tans and picks up Betties (See Betty).
down the mine = over the falls
hot dog = talented radical surfer
soul arch =maneouvre popularised by peter townend in the seventies not invented by donovan frankenreiter
i didn't think i was that old ,just well read but then again...
old photo of mine(posted in great lineups) of the outside corner in full swing 1989-90?
scene of many long terrfiying hold downs....

Nice shot, pre digital, developed on kodak paper in kuta and crinkled on the flight home. Memories.
Yep, gone down the mine a few times there, frightening.

I believe that SUP will evolve by equipment improvements.
Importantly I believe that the standard SUP will evolve into two crafts which are more specialised and provide highly improved performance in their respective areas.

The lack of paddling speed may result in a streamlined craft that may look something like this:

The lack of Manoeuvrability while surfing a wave may result in a shorter, lighter design which may look something like this:

Classic wishy, classic

Mate, the bronx crew are at it constantly. 6am yesterday was a stolen car fire, there are about 5 of them under the bypass walkover now, looks like a car yard. Later in the day juiced up chap walked in front of a car on South St, he's no longer in the land of the living. Just another day in the dale. I love getting down third creek after a day there, believe me. See ya down there this week, lookin good.

I just dont get supping. Riding a short board is the best in terms of what you can do on a wave but in Perth sometimes conditions are not ideal, I ride at least a 9 foot mal, anything shorter and youve got a s"£$ hybrid. Sometimes I get a wave hungry tool that wants to sit 10m further out the back and try and claim every wave. Due to paddle rate and and better change of direction you can actually out hassle them. So they drop in and I push them off their board. So the future of SUP is to lose the paddle. SUM (stand up malibu)
