There is alot of people out there who think our "wake style" riding is just just a rip off from wakeboarding, but has anyone noticed that every good board sport has links to other good board sports?
Lets bring the whole slider/rail riding kicker thing in. Correct me if i'm wrong but skatebording was the 1st real board sport to ride sliders or rails. Then snowboarders, wakeboarders, bmx and even (cover your super dry's lads) manblading all got onto the rail riding trend as we have. Most grabs are named the same in wake, snow, kite, skateboarding and even surfing.
My point is all board sports steal bits from other sports. So yes our wake style is not new and yes its stolen. But fark how fun is it?
Yes but the difference is that with kiting you practice one of the pure harnessing the raw elements of nature.
You are using the power of the windto glide over the ocean
This is in itself a beautiful act and those 2 elements combined provide 90% of the enjoyment no matter what level you are at
The other 10% is probably fulfilled by the sense of improvement and for a minority i hope the **** factor (look at me, look at me, those who always launch big air close to shore but will jibe offshore will recognise themselves)
The skateboarders may have invented the whole grind culture with the graphities and (in my humble opinion) hilariously stupid look but when you bring this crap into my element, it makes me feel violated
I acknowledge that i am probably wrong and should respect everyone's preference but keep your ##$%&^%%$# ramps ,sliders and concrete walls away from my spot
That goes for the new school of surfing sooo intent on launching a crappy little air that they will waste a perfectly walling wave still crying for 3 power cut back, bottom turns and a floater on the close out section
The same goes to digging man made half pipe in our beaut mountains
