Yeah when I had the board shaped I asked him to put a full run of inserts to make it easily adjustable. I did have it the way you describe when I first picked up the board but changed to how is now after a bit of tinkering. The majority of the time I'm out of the strap but its nice to have it there.
Yes I was thinking around the 5'4- 5'6 for the vanguard as I am 80 pies.
I'd reckon no bigger than 5'4", you are only 3kg more pie than me.
Both those straps are backwards. They are supposed to be facing in so you just slide your feet back & forward when you are jibing. That was the whole idea behind that style of foot strap. Makes jibing easier for people with 2 left feet like me.
I'm mainly a strapped surfboard guy because to me kiting is a combo of windsurfing, snowboarding, surfing, and a little bit of motocross. That said, I do like strapless, especially learning how to do bigger jumps and light wind wave riding. I'm on an older than dirt Cab, the only era where the boards didn't fall apart from my abuse.
Is that North Shore Oahu at Mokuleia ?
Hey Terry,
That full board axis pad is rad!
Where's the best place to buy full board pads like that?
Do you mean the 2nd board from the right? They come with that pad already stuck down on it and we cannot order the pad on its own. You can buy stick on front pads and stick on pads with inserts. Kp have the NSI strap pads and stick on front pads, hopefully their new website will be up very soon and you can see the items, the current site has been let go a bit, I just checked and they are not available.
I've got a toe strap, usually I ride big toe locked in at all times but recently I've switched to just the pinky
Anyone looking to make the shift, given flat water or small waves would definitely progress in throwing straps away. Yes it's a pain in the arse when your learning but when you can tack/ jibe switch or run from that massive overhead it brings a whole new satisfaction to kiting.
Then you can go back to straps:)
Strapless dudes are, let's face it.....dudes that are scared of the consequences of wearing straps even though the moves would be sooo much higher and more impressive
I learnt to ride a directional strapless first as i just got an old surfboard and went for it. I am now pretty decent at riding waves strapless but have never given straps a proper go, I am pretty keen as it could be awesome for the right conditions but don't really have the board for it at the moment.
Do many people learn strapless first just by getting whatever board they can and having a crack or its that just me? It seems a likely way many would go

Same here just got old surfboard 100 bucks and went for it, best part being I could go in lighter winds while everyone else struggled on their twintips. Best way to learn as surfboards have a bit more volume. I go mostly strapped when the wind is honking (winter) and use the strapless when lighter (summer).
