Hi All

Given ungenerous weight limitations on Jetstar, what gear would you take to Bali? I guess there may only be room for one board and one kite with a bar, harness and pump.

I gather wind is on the light side. I am 105kg, so I am thinking lightwind gear- zephyr 17m and lightwind board. The zephyr can handle higher winds to say 22knots as well as light wind. The lightwind board gets me down to say 12 knots but is not good in the surf. Instead i could take a board that goes better in higher winds and surf but it is a little heavy and no good in winds below 15 knots. I only have twintips- no surfboards

We won't be kiting all the time and will be diving and doing bali tourism too but it would be a shame not have the kite gear right as I need my fix while over there.

Any hints are much appreciated.

id go with the light wind setup. i been to bali about 4 times, never kited there, (only been there once since iv been kiting) but there never seams to be any wind. last time i went was june last year and i went to one of their kite shop/ school locations just to ask where is the best spot for wind and they said it was where i was but maybe more if you go out in a boat to some island, it was so light tho they had a bunch of 17 to 20 m kites set up and they were trying to do lessons. but there was nothing the whole time i was there. before i started kiting i was pretty into surfing so wasnt taking as much notice of wind, but was still out surfing every day and it just seams like there is never any wind, which was good for surfing, iv always gone around june / july.

Save yourself any drama and buy the biggest board coffin around. Most airlines allow one bag for sporting equipment for $50, so much better than trying to meet limits etc. One big coffin and throw everything you could ever want in. I do a fair bit of diving asd well, so and generall carry all dive equip, surfboard every thing in one massive bag for this reason, saved myself a fortune over time.

Light wind board. Wind never reach 22 knots!
Mostly 12-15.
June last year was one of the worst in history we still managed to ride 14 days but pretty much only at the beginning and then the last week of June.
See ya.

You won't really want to kite in the surf given how under gunned you'd be. Tearing through the flats in sanur with a huge kite and board is good though, Mt batur in the background is scenic too!

Listen to Jankie . I am 85 kgs and have spent a fair bit of time there .

Go to Sanur . Flat water inside and fun surf outside . Have a light wind mindset and forget the heavy air of Victoria .

Take Zephyr only and a light wind board . Big TT or Nugget or a mini mal as Jankie does . Puetz might be able to make comment as you are in the heavier realm .

We ( the Darwin mob - s?@* wind capital of Australia ) have had sweet sessions in the surf which wraps the coast line for miles. Big kites cruising on small to overhead waves .

Last year I kited 14 of 16 days on Zephyr / Nugget in late July .

Icy Bintangs , fresh cooked fish, and nasi goreng at Putu and Ketut's warung . Not a hardcore location but once you settle in its a magic place to holiday and get akite at the same time .

Man, I am looking forward to July /August.

Ok I am getting picture and can't wait. Some kiting in the sun and easy living will be well due by the time we get there, as winter is upon us in Melbourne!

I remember it well. Hated June/ July in the end. That cold coming in as the sun approached the horizon around 4 pm. Cold , black mornings.

I don't want to talk about it any more.

Yes , Bali and warm weather.

Great . Sounds like a bit of a crew to swap stories with .

Selling the zephyr not ! I gather they have gone up in price again and got this one pretty right in Bali last year .

It's not exactly wearing out at the moment

Just heads up guys. Jetstar will not allow any luggage over 32kg (even if you pay for it) due to health and safety regulations with lifting.

... nice one Eddie, I reckon you could even take the Nugget for a paddle in those waves, why not, take the straps off and you'd be all good!

Snorkel, mask and fins are a great idea too!

Robbie :)

If you're thinking Sanur, Villa Puri Ayu, but probably booked out for July/aug, worth a try.
