Hi Ian, I'm camped approx 20km north of you on the north side of Winderabandi Point, Ningaloo Station. Drop in if you want a cuppa or repairs. 2nd camp from the point.
If wind is up I will be kitesurfing.
Peter
take note of the waksa tag on his harness , even after a reconstruction
Many people would not be aware that it was Ian that instigated the formation of AKSA (as it was known then). Ian was compiling a list of people he had taught or who were kitesurfing mates, and he passed that on to me (Steve McCormack) and Darren Marshall around late 2001/early 2002 and then I went and registered AKSA in NSW with Terron Titus, the rest is history. The story of AKSA (now KA Ltd) could never be complete without that original push from Ian!
We are probably to late to get you one to you for the rest of the journey Ian but we have a replacement for your well loved harness at Auswind if anyone is going up or knows the best location to Express post it to if we are not to late???? Or we will get it to you when your back in town for future adventures.
A trip of dedication and inspiration for so many people Ian unreal exploits for a great cause I have loved coming into work and checking on progress every day. As Ian moves towards the end guys lets all echo the reasons for this epic adventure and show our support to the cause. https://soldieron.giveeasy.org/campaigns/kitesurfing-perth-to-the-north-west-cape/
Good winds Ian
TUESDAY ARVO UPDATE:
Ian left Coral Bay at 1435hrs today with a stretch goal of Yardie Creek. As of 5pm he's done 53km and Yardie Creek is still about 55km away.
The forecast for Exmouth suggests the wind will keep blowing, right past dark, so we might see the first "NightKite" session today unless he decides to stop a bit short and call it a day.
We don't actually have an online weather monitoring station at Exmouth-- only a forecast model -- so no way of knowing what's actually going on there, except that his most recent update on the GPS tracker has him travelling due N at 35.1km/hr at 1715hrs, having just rounded the cape at Coates Hill.
Not many options for hooking up with anyone else in this part of the world so hope his crew will be able to connect with him this time.
Big thanks goes out to fellow kiter Col Walker in Coral Bay for looking after Ian last night when the crew weren't able to join him and for loaning him his harness to complete the rest of the mission!
Will post again later if I hear from Ian or the crew by satphone this evening.
Today's data:
Hi Robbo, the Learmonth weather station on BOM would be pretty close for live weather. Wrong side of the cape but its pretty flat!
www.bom.gov.au/products/IDW60801/IDW60801.94302.shtml
Currently 13-18 knots SW, so I reckon he will be putting a kite up soon!
Cheers
Learmonth can be zero and over the cape on the reef can be 20kts, so don't take Learmonth as a reading..
looks like he has got going again and just about to go past winderabandi point.
Don't know what his plans are but he could probably push hard and get to the lighthouse by late arvo.
Pretty ordinary place to be camped at
$18,500 now, huge effort but maybe a few more shops / suppliers might help him nudge past 20K.
What he planning next Robbo? Has anyone kited to the Abrolhos yet
Ian just dropped in on way past Winderabandi, safe travels.
Great photo...

Hey Peter, I passed on your message to him this morning -- great that he was able to hook up with you! What a spectacular spot! And what a difference from a couple days ago!
I guess you probably heard about the challenges yesterday tacking around a couple of the wide points and across the bays with wind at times going every direction except for the direction you'd hope for? All good in the end and Ian and the crew connected with the owners of a Ningaloo station just off the beach where he stopped last night and were generously treated to local hospitality with all manner of food and drink. There are still awesome people everywhere in the world!
Ian's plan is to overnight between Yardie Creek and Exmouth tonight and to complete the mission in Exmouth tomorrow.
Once I have more precise information on his plans for the finish line, I'll post GPS coordinates for anyone who's up that way and would like to meet him at the finish line.
ALMOST THERE!
With photos like those, someone should touch up TourismWA to chip in

Crew, if you didn't know him beforehand, you've seen his pics here - there's no excuse anymore.
If you see him, buy the man a drink, shake his hand & say well fkg done.....
LOL He has stopped at turquoise bay.
I hope you got a photo to post from there Ian.
Are you sending your missus out with her camera TH?

Thanks Robbo, Ian told me that he HAD to drop in, orders from you. It was nice to have a quick chat with him a few other Kiteboarders met him too.
THIS story is inspiring + unbelievable + awesome + F--k ya did what ? well done Ian and crew, all the best on the final legs.
fairly sure the support crew might be hanging for some cold beverages also
IMO a big heads up to the crew is warranted , ash , Clancy and trooper the dog, clancys dragged his camper off road down some ****ty tracks, buggered a few tyres and no doubt cause a few cosmetic scars to his landy , the guys have given up their time to assist a mate and fellow servicemen and their family's , coping with health and mental issues due to life in the forces , ash and Clancy have been instrumental in Ian achieving his goal, true troopers
No doubt they had to dunc it all in saltwater today to get across yardie creek too
On a quiet night you'll hear it rust
Is there a doco being made? And if there is, when when can we all troop along (pun intended) to the premier, at Luna or somehwere, with $20 tickets for Soldier On? Just an idea
40k, ONE MORE DAY.
Spoke briefly with Ian this morning and everything is all on schedule to complete the mission today, arriving at Jansz Beach (Near the Exmouth Lighthouse) sometime between 14:30 and 1500hrs.
We're still looking for someone in Exmouth with a HD-capable DSLR or other HD device who might be able to shoot some video of Ian arriving. Any contacts in Exmouth would be most appreciated.
PM me if you have any ideas.
Will post updates as events dictate!
Almost there!
Novotel Ningaloo is putting up a free room for Ian tonight. Someone let him know when he gets in. I live in Exmouth and will try and find someone to video it.
^^^ Reckon they should throw in a couple of hookers and a heap of booze after that gig . But I think Youngy will be partying up hard tonite anyway.
Well done Champ
Veebs
