Sammy, overhead waves in 30-40 knots, are faken hard to ride strapless, but I guess you know better. You should come to the Goldy and show the pros how its done!

here's the link

being able to do that is what should in theory be what gives you the title of professional.. ive seen that level wave riding at the local spots around perth all the time u dont see everyone here being on pkra and claiming pro status maxx

I just watch the vid on the pkra website of the tenerife event - I was horrified with the wave riding - all strapped and doing backrolls -
If this is how we showcasing the wave side our sport then things are pretty grim. There were a couple of decent riders but most of it looked like freestylers on a surfboard.

If they put that show on at the goldy this year - the surfers will laugh them of the water.

wtf

its true so suck it up.

If your worried about surfers laughin at you go and surf? why try and copy another sport when your doing a completely different one?

following that arguement, why try copy surfing at all then and only do a half arsed job at it like whats shown in that vid? hell as soon as u get on a surfboard ur copying surfing.

Mitu is nuts, you don't get to be world champ for no reason. The way he rides is definitely going to be a big influence in the way kitesurf events are scored in the future.

If you don't like it, don't compete.

Personally i like it, the latest vid he has on the FOne site is nuts.

no he's not judgin from that vid jst posted... if u go off that it seems it's pretty easy to get that title. cut up dangle air cut up dangle air is the way its already judges so theres no extra influence.

I agree sammy, i think that the strapped riding showed on that vid tends to give the impression of sh_t poley waveriding style, busting out flicks, and way over exagerating turns does not give the same look/feel as unstrapped being more pure and clean, in a couple of years some young groms will be doing all that without the straps, smoother and cleaner, hell they probably are now! sure strapped riding has its place but should that style be the main focus for kiting at the top level?? I think not.. The conditions in that looked fine for unstrapped riding, head high waves with nice consistent strong breeze. Take off the trainer wheels..

thanks for your input - for a moment I thought everyone on this forum loves this eurostyle of wave riding - i aggree it looks very much like pole boarding - funny enough some of the best turns on this were done by Gisela -

its good to see not everyone on this forum are pro-hoes... but its kitesurfing, its all about being as euro as u can be.

Talk is cheap, sammyd, herbyburger and co. before posting any more comments why don't any of you post a vid of what you can do unstrapped in 30-40 knots, before writing off people with way more skilled than you will ever have in your wildest wet dream. All you do is TRY to talk the talk.......

thats the same stupid arguement everyone always tries to use to justify their gay love for pros.

the thing that should seperate pro from punter is the fact that they can ride gnarly conditions in heaps of wind unhooked un strapped what ever and make it look good.

watching this crap actually gave me so much more respect for people like Ryland.

this,ll really make you angry

The thought of someone having fun but looking so gay to you and apparently surfers must keep you up all night

Mitu's my favourite kitesurfer. I aspire to ride like him, strapped in and powered up. Check out the 360 handelpass at 1 min 20 sec.

The great thing about Mitu is that his agenda is fun whether it be strapped or unstrapped which is great for Mitu and great for the sport .It is sad that people have this unstrapped agenda, it is even sader when people succumb to other peoples agenda or tribalism and limit the fun .Strapped unstrapped whatever floats your boat .

fair call but there is a difference between going out for a fun session kicking around doing your own thing, and being the face/ representative of a sport at a competition, at comps and events it should be as core and legit as possible showing everyone out side the sport how good kiting is, when ur kicking around like old mate is in that vid how ever, it doesn't really matter what you do as long as ya enjoying yourself. once again key point that should seperate pro from joe.

can we check out landings thanks

Great still shot. Big boost and grab, valiant effort Will.
I've seen the sequence and suffice to say the board and rider landed both landed perfectly and with a great deal of style, only not in the same place.
My point was straps help you land it

doesn't look great for unstrapped just so lumpy - what 2 turns max unstrapped. I however don't ever think strapped and unstrapped should be in the same heat - that is simply stupid. Waveriding is subjective enough already without the fact somone has to judge one rider glued to the board and one not.... soooo dumb if in same heat - i personally would prefer a comp - all unstrapped - or all strapped and event organisers hold it considering better conditions/days for the chosen discipline...

actally i don't really like strapped generally - Cape Verde footage is entertaining though - anyone ride that strapless?

In Mark Shinn's FUNK DVD, both he and Mitu rode Ponta Prete strapless ( I think Mitu mostly rode strapless then). There always seems to be a problem with too much power from the kite there though.

Mitu's handy on a windsurfer too.

I think we call all agree that a trick pulled off wit commitment, power & style will score highest, kitesurfing needs a lot more time to mature. straps on a surfboard is fine if the waves require it or we start doing high powered tricks in huge waves that take surfing to the next level instead of just playing catchup to try and look like surfing with a kite.

That being said if you can ride a surfboard with straps in a surf event why not allow directionals and twintips also?

Most people do this sport for fun and ride the way they want to ride. Who are we to judge how other people should be riding.

in all seriousness its like compairing trials bike rideing to motocross the former has a certain skill and furnesse the latter has to but is more fly by the seat of your pants (unless surfing 8ft+ same as the latter ) both use a bike . surfing and kiteing both use a board, are not the same sport i personaly like haveing the option of pulling the bar in to get myself out of trouble with or without the board ithink its been said before kitesurfing is like tow is surfing behind a helecopter but keep that to yourself
