What is the difference in low end between the 17 and 14, both pulley less?

I am 87kg and use a 5'6" surfboard, experienced light wind kiter.

With the 17m you'll get out in average winds 1-2 knots less than with the 14m and you'll ride much comfortable at the 14m low end.

It seems not so much but it's a big difference when you are looking for low wind.

If you are looking really for a lightwind kite, go for the 17m.

Hope that helps!

Hi does anyone have any knowledge to compare this to the Naish Fly?

Looking for a light wind kite to use in summer on a surfboard down mid coast.

Rider: 105kg - Experienced 8+ years
Style: Freeriding, Surf
Weather: light wind
Build Quality: 10/10
Satisfaction: 9/10
Disclosure: I know Chris from Griffin kites but until last year I had not used his kites. I flew f-one bandit's and currently own a 10m and 14m Argo (custom made with Angry Koala logo) a 10m Bandit 5 and a 21m Flysurfer.

Backgroun:

I wasn't that interested in the Griffin kites until I organised training for a friend of mine and the instructor was using Griffin Argos. These kites are rock solid, very predictable and to my thinking one of the best beginner/intermediate kites you can get. You can just leave them sitting on the ground on the edge of the wind window, hands off the controls. To launch, just pull on top line. The kit immediately flips over and climbs to 12 noon. I love them in the surf, however I don't think they go up wind as well as other kites I have used (personal opinion). I have flown them both in NSW and in Hawaii.

A few Saturdays ago, I met Chris down at long reef. The wind was 8-10 knots (estimation) and I tried out the TRX 17m. I was impressed. This kite did not feel like a big kite. I recon it turns almost as fast as the 10m Argo. The turns are also more pivotal. It also pointed up wind very nicely. Just a fun kite to use and certainly did not feel like 17m.

I rode a few different surf boards, from a mini-mal to my Firewire and there was plenty of usable power (and I'm a big guy at 105kg). On the same day I took out the 21m Flysurfer. It generated more power put was a pain to fly. Absolute truck.

I'm seriously considering buying the 17m. I live a over an hour from my kiting spots and really want to get out even if the wind is borderline. This kite would not only allow me to get out, but to really enjoy the ride.

I will be getting a quiver of the TRX kites from Chris, including the 17m. They will be a lot of fun and perfect for my style of kiting.

Dusta,

AngryKoala don't say "turns like a 10". He say "I recon it turns almost as fast as the 10m Argo".

Maybe would be good to know wich year is this Argo 10m , but anything else. Is just a direct comparison with the kite he is using actually (have a look at "disclosure" in his post), and in this case comparing to another Griffin kite, not generally to any 10m kite.

All my best

I took a 17 for a spin yesterday in 14 -18 kts on Botany Bay. I am 80+kgs and was very surprised by the kite. I have been riding Argos for the last four years, mainly in the surf and usually a 9m and have now got a 9 and 12 TRX. I wouldn't say that it turns as fast as a 10 Argo but it is very direct and is easy to loop. The hang time is really fun and the kite likes to be flown hard or you can just mow lawns if you want, doesn't matter to the TRX. I will be getting one. Also the bars have improved since last season.

Had a chance to demo the new 2013 TRX 17 pro - Kite felt great, didn't have to adjust to my style as the kite is very pleasant to ride and very well balanced,Fast turning and light feel! Liked so much that I rode until got dark probably for 2 1/2 hrs, just love it.
The best thing is the sensation if riding a smaller kite, I doesn't give the boring sensation of a big truck but the opposite and I could ride it as a 12 would. Winds were very light and lots of other kiters were struggling to keep upwind and I was up and down the beach jumping and cruising around!
Great Kite, I recommend!
