I was going to throw my gear in the car today for a session after work at seaford (work in Dany South - 15mins to seaford) but was scared off by forecast and possibility that no other kiters would be there.

Going to pm you my details for future possibilites..

yeah, pretty fierce and unpredictable.
Do you see many other kiters at Seaford - the spot where you kite according to the map you posted?

So I'm down at carrum downs and it's pretty blowy but the frankston beacon looks quiet. Is that beacon accurate? Because the other beacons in the bay show wind

Aloha!
Be careful with the Frankston beacon. It is located on the top of the coast guard building next to the kids playground near Olivers Hill.

You can rely on it only from West to North winds. Any other direction is sheltered by the hills around!

If you want to check how the wind and waves are go to the website of the Pattersson Lakes Motor boat club. There is a weather Station and a Webcam at the mouth of the river. Perfect!.....But it's not working at the moment and I hope they will fix it soon as this is the nearest spot to where I kite in Seaford.

Agree totaly with the posts above regarding the Frankston beacon. Although the wind at Frankston is sometimes less than other areas I think the readings from the Frankston Beacon are, even on north / west winds, often at least 5 - 10 knots less than what is on the water.
I kite on an 11m well powered and the site will show less than 15knts for the whole session. Was on an 8m tonight overpowered and i dont think the beacon went over 20knts for the whole session!

Yeah I had my first session out at seaford on an 8 that day too and got blown around quite a bit. Glad it wasn't just me!

I went out yesterday arvo as well. The wind was a bit up and down but the sun was out which is a welcome change. Is it always pretty choppy on this side of the bay or does it sometimes come in reasonably flat or shape up into decent waves?

North westerly is the go from Carrum down to Frankston. If it is due north Frankston is the go, the wind gets a bit gusty but the water also gets pretty flat.
North west at Frankston on a low tide can give some good flat water between the waves

what do you think the chances are of pulling out the 12 tomorrow arvo? Surely that breeze shown on BOM wont die off that much from the centre of the bay

Not as windy down Rosebud, got 2hrs in on the 10m between 1-3pm, even some sunshine. Kited right up until the cold front came thru, just manged to pack the kite up before the rain arrived. Water temp has definitely gone up a degree or two in the last few weeks
