It reminds me of the industrial visit my fellow Naval Apprentice Fitter and Machinists and myself went to at Australia Forge where we saw a crankshaft for a BMC 4 cylinder engine formed from a red hot billet of steel with one almighty blow in a thumping great steam hammer.
Afterwards they showed us a crank that had been machined in half and acid etched and illustrated the flow of its molecular structure.
Also reminds me of the difference between a magician's wand and a policeman's baton.
The former is for cunning stunts. The use of the latter I will leave to your imagination.

Ah must confess.
You don't see the allen key for retaining the threading head in the photo, as it is still hiding somewhere under my welding bench. I know it's there as it bounced off the toe of my boot and I heard it strike something. I've looked for a good while with no luck.

the all piece is a depth guage for the wire when it is clamped in

worked on wire spool and straightener over the weekend
with 1 pull through the wire is straight and ready to go. only need 35m per wheel
the straightener sits under the reel and straightens as it feeds off
youve no idea just how smooth and easy it all works

spoke roller done and first thread rolled
didnt have any mulga handy ,so i settled with sheok for the handle
Not much to report other than I've added a bit of bling to the roller.
The Lady of the house, said it now looks like something out of "Thomas the tank engine" with its kindergarten colours.
I have also made the dies for rolling and profiling 19mm wide, front and rear penny farthing rims.
While I was at it I knocked up a set of dies to roll 25Nb light hi tensile tube, into a front fork "oval" profile. (See the right hand side of the top roller profile.)
So can now roll every size of pipe and tube up to 50Nb. All RHS sizes up to 65mm x 65mm and also all flat bars to 100mm x 12mm. The 100mm x 16mm thick flat bar, was just too much of a grunt. It would be ok if you only needed bigger radiuses though.
this could have been painful, but i realized something was wrong just as I hopped on. internal tube cracked on a thread, so my bronze welds were not to blame
I will need to build an internal and an external sleeve to get back on the road
Very nice technology as are Segways but one has to wonder where is the real benefit to humanity??
Devices like these seem to be designed to eliminate the need to walk anywhere.
From my perspective as a Type 2 Diabetic, medical advice I receive is that more exercise will help combat the condition.
So I tell my Doctor that as a 63 year old with a bit of arthritis, running is not an option but that I walk my dog and he responds by saying that unfortunately, humans are very efficient walkers so as exercise it is of not much benefit.
It seems the main beneficiary of the invention and use of these devices is the dog.
