Clarification of the rules please:

Can the seat be adjustable?

And does it have to be solidly mounted to the landyacht?

what you going to stand with the seat attached to your derriere??

Design AND build a sit-on landyacht with a SMALLER wheelbase than Hummingbird, then break Charlottes PB by sailing , infront of witnesses, with a GPS,in opposite directions( this prevents a downhill run).

cut some shims from a beercan, you should empty the can first
4.5m im going for 3 on an original windsurfer mast

!/2" bright steel 1040 shafting, is not much more expensive than 12 mm black round and 3 times stronger. A trip to the local steel merchant if possible, I'd say.

Right, thanks for that Chook. Looks like I'll have to find my local steel merchant

Took it out today and despite many admiring looks from all present, only managed around 2 knots. Helps if there's wind hey.

So split pins are OK in this application?

To be honest the axle is the last thing that will break

it was built in a bit of a hurry...

be careful of a fatigue failure. It might not break straight away but there is a good chance it will over time

12mm is very light for a rear axle and putting a split pin through it on the inside
will weaken it further Maybe you could use a high tensile bolt welded on with the nut
on the outside?

Therein lies the problem... I have no access to a welder

You will laugh when you see how I've attached the axles
Bodge mcBodgery is my middle name.

Still I had the urge and it's built now

This is a project for Naffy
Here he is on his first sail last year.

We need to work on getting him to put in the odd turn or two....pity the rules state you have to go both ways

Does a seat harness count as a "seat"?

I'm hoping so, as otherwise my entry doesn't qualify

It should come in under the length and width criteria once I move the axles around.

I wouldn't worry about the speed, there's no way I'll feel safe above 20 km/h...

Life is too short to be a grump Ron. I'm always bloody happy!!!!!!!!

I did suffer a serious sporting injury 27 years ago, called marriage.
That put a small blemish on my mood for a time.
Geez I've nearly got her trained, so not giving her up now!!![}:)][}:)]

New wheelbase is 880mm I think. Definitely less than 1050 anyway.

Still waiting for some wind to try it out... waiting... waiting...

Hey Paul, remember this yacht and sailing at Mallala?
It used 20" bike wheels and fitted through a doorway of 820mm.

It was based on this yacht from the book "Landsailing from RC to the big ones"
