LAKE LEFROY ,Sept 29-30 , 1st Oct Marathon and speed event, plus social sailing. Adding some additional race,s has been discussed but not finalized

The club has been really happy with the results of last years GPS speed trials and we will be running them again in conjunction with The Lightning Nickel class 5 Marathon and the Andrew Bates Perpetual Shield for Minis/Blokarts

Registration.
Competitors shall register each morning for the days sailing at a time announced by the officials/scrutineers.
Registration will be on the basis of 1 GPS-1 person-1yacht.(if participating in speed trials)
Yachts ,helmets and seatbelts will be inspected.
Competitors will be given an opportunity to change class during the lunch break.
Late starters may register at this time.
Fees applicable
Initial Registration. $10.00(to be confirmed)
Change of Class $5.00.
Registration for speed trials will count as entry fee for the “Marathon Race” as speeds recorded during the race shall be allowed for submission in speed trial results

Lake Lefroy is a remote area and accommodation is limited to say the least. While there is toilet and shower facilities on site. Plenty of camp sites for vans and tents(all free) need to bring plenty of water there is none available at the site

This is one of the best sailing venues in Australia if not the world.

Not an event to miss hope to see everyone there.
Cheers

This would need to be confirmed by the LLYC. But as far as I am aware the Mini Marathon is sailed under the 4.6 mini rules. (the blocarts are very quick at Lefroy)
The speed trials are recorded as a class. It is a great weekend and everyone is welcome
any any yacht of any description can have a great time sailing the great expanses of Lefroy

LLYC is the organizer of this event but as a favor to them I have got the ball rolling on this event while they have been at the worlds.
Cheers
Vic

Blokart division results could be extracted from the mini class results without much hassle. Looks like a good number of blokarts going this year

sorry port its all in for the marathon, It might be a blokart year if i dont build me a temporary yacht. from memory our classes of yachts for GPS speed trial have both types of blowies down as classes.
we are digging through the trophy box at the moment for some other suitable trophies

heres the classes that we ran in 2010
1. Class 5 (FISLY, ALSA) http://www.fisly.org/rules/index.php
2. Class 5 Restricted. Max wheel diameter 420mm
3. Lake Lefroy Mini.Unrestricted www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=39791
4. Blokart.Production.Weight divisions not applicable.
Equipment as per International Blokart Racing Assoc. Handbook
www.blokart.ee/purikart/TEKSTID/V%F5istlusjuhend%202007.pdf
5. Blokart . Performance. Weight divisions not applicable.
Equipment rules as per International Blokart Racing Assoc. Handbook
6. Open class 1. round mast section with sail
7. Open class 2. "Non round" mast section with sail
8. Open class 3. Solid surface sail(wing )

Registration.

Registration for speed trials will count as entry fee for the "Marathon Race" as speeds recorded during the race shall be allowed for submission in speed trial results.

Eligibility.
Competitors must be able to supply documented evidence of membership to a Landyacht or Blokart club . Eg membership card, receipt,or letter. The event must be included in that clubs calendar of events. For those who are not currently members of a club, The Lake Lefroy Landsailing Club is able to offer Temporary Membership at a cost of $10.00

Suitable GPS Recievers.
Any GPS with a 'max speed' function will be required by each competitor.. It should have fresh batteries and be placed so it has a good view of the sky. Taping them to the boat with a good view is better than in a pocket. A pocket that holds the GPS in a good position is generally OK though. Some cell phones can interfere with the GPS. I turn them off, especially the 3G types. Occasionally GPSs will interfere with each other if they are right next to each other. . If you get readings that don't seem realistic a log will generally sort things out. Putting a second GPS in the boat is simpler alternative.
If anyone is going to buy a GPS I recommend a Locosys GT 31. It logs at one hertz, is very sensitive and has a long battery life. Many other GPS can be set to log as well. If any one has a GT 31 it should be set up to record NMEA sentences GGA and RMC . The unit must be able to download data via a laptop USB. Older GPS units that use a larger plug may not be suitable for downloading.Ie we may not be able to check a very high reading on the laptop that will be at the lake.
Bicycle speedometers that measure from a wheel magnet or cable are not acceptable.
The competitor must ensure that the Date/time settings are correct. The position setting is to be Latitude and Longitude.Height to be in meters above sea level.
Speed readings to be in Kms per hour. The competitor must demonstrate that the memory has been cleared of all data at the beginning of the event.
Competitors must ensure that the unit is kept away from 2 way radios, mobile phones, or any electronic devices whilst in use..
Best speeds each day will be received after 5.00pm.results will simply be taken down manually. If required the scrutineer shall download the best results. Competitors must be able to supply the suitable cable if required.

The commodore ,TP1 and myself have had a look through the trophy box to see what we can offer as an extra incentive to come and join the fun on the long weekend, and we have unearthed some grand old club trophies.
the plan is to race a series of 5 short course races per class with the worst placing as a discard.
the minis will be racing for the "Kambalda West perpetual Trophy"
last awarded in 1974 to miss S Fergerson.. As my mini is still in transit I plan to score and race marshall this series myself
Class 5 will be racing for one of the clubs most coverted trophies, The "Dee Trophy" .
first raced for in 1972 with winners including Ross White,Willy Dahmen,Phill Silverlock,Bill Fergusen,peter Poglits,and in 1986,Nathan Purvis.
The trophies are currently being restored to awardable condition after many years of storage in various sheds and cupboards.
many thanks to Trav and Jody for the last few years of custodianship.
the present condition of the lake is AMAZING, no water , no slush , no "snow" and many large tracts of rollerskating quality salt.
Hope to see you there

cricky Vic you figured out you could fit the airtrack on your mini!!!!!!!!!!
I dont even have a bloomin' mini yet
at least the old 5 is smoking fast with all the secret stuff ive learned
just a reminder that the minimini cup is still yet to be raced for.
little stig has been influenced by her trip to the tall ships race in St Malo. subsequently hummingbird now seriously resembles a 18th century pirate ship in particular the french replica "Etoile de Roi"
dont forget to bring you gold coins as the pirate captain will be fining landsailors with her donation tin for all "offences"

do some fellas race and then head into town to watch it, or is it just a matter of
"the winds up- get out there". i'm thinking of booking a room in kambalda for the night so i don't have to pissy drive, thats all.
cheers mark

Ive settled on 75mm rims for the hookworm 2.5's. any wider gives to flat a tyre profile. I can run at 35psi on the claypan with no tyre wear. It will be interesting to see how they run on salt.
just dont tell any of the other people running 26" tyres will you Vic, our little secret
front end is a 16"x50mm rim running a shwalbe 16x2.25 knobbly.12psi! about 2kg weight on the front when stationary

I am bringing 3 sets of wheels 26" with me to try
50mm wide with hookworms and change to kojacks to see it there is much difference between them.
98mm wide fitted with hookworms.2.5 (these built with polyester resin)
98mm wide fitted with black floyd 3.8"

2 front wheels
standard 20" fitted with miracle tire
50mm wide 20" fitted with miracle tire

Started loading the Patrol
