the other thing to keep in mind is the word Michelin! wheni first got " VINDICATOR" There were 2 sets of tyres. the 15" michelins from a 2CV and a set of tyres from a drag car . special layed up 200mph tyres. Oooooooooooh you would think.
But no The special Racing tyres would top at 100kph. the michelins would feel like they were expanding between 64and 84kph then smooth out and cruise up into the 130's . the front tyre is a 2.50x8 4ply ribbed MICHELIN wheelbarrow tyre. I dont think any other wheelbarrow tyre in the world would be up to those speeds. The rubber in Michelins is very porous and have to be washed 2-3times after a few days sailing due to the salt weeping out.
The americans have a tyre brand called windbell that is similar
iand,
Im just moving the subject back to the thread of class5 and your interest in building one. If you want to get the best performance from a class5 (or any other race class) you actually need other yachts to compete against.
Ideally club racing is great for this.
Many years ago prior going to the UK championships Bill Finch did a lot of one on one yacht testing with me sailing the second yacht, both yachts were of similar speed and he would then change things on yacht 1 untill it was significantly faster than an unchanged yacht 2. Then the changes were made to the second yacht to then match 1, the process then stated again with the next item for improvement... and yes this took many hours.
If you were to sail in isolation (without yachts in the same class) or change things at the same time as another yacht you will never find out if what you did actually works or not.
Attached site for plans for seagull promo/and promo sport. they are in french. (use google langauge converter)

A GPS is good for some things... but if you sail on your own you would also need a measure windspeed, direction and some way to measure the hardness of the surface you are sailing on. And whats wrong with a bit of mateship rivalry to push you just that bit harder? Nothing beats one on one sailing.
Sometimes "Landyacht" you dont know good you've got it on a salt lake!!!!!
