Yes, I brought out their commissioning guy Antoine for the 12.50 and Open 40. Not only does he work like a trojan, i could sit and listen to him for hours. He is like an encyclopedia of the French yachting culture, and of course all the mad French Open 60,40, Cat and Tri sailors all seem to live in Brittany, so he will start a story by saying he bumped into Michael Desjoyeaux at the grocery store getting milk..... :)
It was interesting, a guy that wandered over and started helping us (I love sailors) was talking about the spreader rake. The Pogo doesn't have any backstay at all, as some bright spark worked out that spreaders set at 120 degrees from the forestay (90 deg being straight spreaders) negates requiring a backstay to hold the mast up.
It turned out it was Christian (the owner of Pogo) who thought of it and Finot Conq (Pogo's naval architect) who designed it!
I am starting to really understand the depth and history of the French sailing culture, it is ingrained into them like no other country.

I would never ask you to come all that way to help out, and thank you for the generous offer, but if you were bored and interested we will be stepping the mast on the 4th January at 11am, tuning it and then doing test sails on the 4th and 5th. You are are more than welcome to come down mate.
Yes, she is anti-fouled, so we will be doing the mast-step in the water. Antoine was saying in the south of France there is a harbour that has the Mistrals (an another wind pattern I can't pronounce) from Nth Africa blow approx 200 days every year. They had to park a 12.50 in 30+ knots of sideways breeze into a tiny little pen that could just fit the boat that required them to enter at nearly full revs, then they stepped the mast in 35knots! Antoine weighs about 70kgs, and he said you are hanging onto the mast with all your strength just to stop it blowing around iike a wind chime (the 17mtr mast on a 12.50 weighs about 170kgs). Utterly insane, but you have no choice apparently.
And I was concerned about crossing the bay in 20+ knots with the mast on the deck, no wonder Antoine looked so relaxed!

Looks great, but you'll have to be careful lowering and raising the anchor to avoid hull damage.

How often is the bob stay replaced Shaggy using Dyneema? Also is the bob stay tension pre set or is is adjustable ?
Any Gulls christened her yet I could send a few from down here if you want . Sands is always through crumbs on my deck

Good question regards replacement, and I don't know. I'll ask Antoine and report back mate.
Yes, the Bob stay tension is adjustable. It retracts into the bowsprit automatically when you bring the sprit back inso you don't have a saggy looking forlorn rope hanging off the bow. Antoine drew out a diagram of how it works for me, I'll find it and post it for you, the mechansim is all encased inside the sprit.
Gulls...aargh! Please don't! You know I have never had a gull problem yet on my existing boat, and I am petrified that I have just been lucky prior to this!!! A good friend with a Davidson 34 gets literally bombarded with them and small sparrows. Is there something that attracts them that I don't know about??

Just look for the big crane, or look for Berth B0, once the mast is in she's easy to spot, the spreaders are a dead giveaway :)
We got the boom out and on deck today, fitted the second wheel, then it got too hot and we called it a day. I might go down tonight and fill/drain the water tanks.
A lady that came over for a chat was a detailer, and recommended to at least flush the water tanks 3 times after being drained for the shipment. This seems like a good idea, so I'll do try for that tonight. I managed to clear the forrard cabin at last, so I might even sleep on her tonight.
She is sits high in the bow without the mast on and with the keel up. Antoine said it wan't make that big a difference, if I follow the waterline stripe I can see what he means. I think the correct term is sheer? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Spig, I hope so mate, I shall certainly be watching the performance of said fridge with interest. They have quite a few hanging out in the West Indies and the Caribbean with no reported problems, so initial hopes are positive. The crew will riot and kill me if it is not up to scratch .
Brand is Indel, size is 60 litres. I opted for a fridge only, as I wanted to keep it simple.

After the mast step, I am going to measure the deck-waterline, then fill all the water tanks (400L) and diesel (60l) and measure again. She is designed to take 2.3ton net on the published numbers, and the options I went for (wheel steering, hot water etc) added 280kgs without fluids, so a bit to go. If I loaded her up to the max net weight I think she'd look a bit different!
With a beam like that you need to be careful they don't charge you catamaran berthing rates.
Don't worry about the Macgregor 26 mob. Even with their stinking outboards they won't catch Fusion.

Spig, I'm going to be the biggest woose for the first few outings, frankly I'll be over the moon if I can get her off the start line without doing a Loyal and hourglassing the kite or something similar! Or a winch override, round up and centre punching the start boat....
I am fully expecting to get annihilated on IRC, it was designed to ignore all the handicap rules and be a simple fast short handed cruiser. IRC hates nearly everything about a Pogo, we would rate something like 1.18 .
I don't mind, I knew that when I ordered it, I really just wanted something that could keep with the fleet and be enjoyable and comfortable, tin cup's notwithstanding.
The Melbourne to Osaka short handed has a LOT of appeal!

No, I didn't see her, that's a shame , I was down there but inside the boat for a change. Today was all about the nav, slaving the CMaps, updating Adrena, downloaded the next 5 days Grib files (wishful thinking?), reading how to manuals etc.
