Seems I recall some old guy saying they don't have much room inside.

There seems to be a lot of cheap Manitous for sale, especially from the guy in Seven Hills who sells unwanted boats on Gumtree. Other than most are home builds, anybody got ideas as to why they are so cheap, apart from:

Ketch rig- more hassle for a day sail
Small boat internally for large overall length.

Do they have bolt-on or internal ballast?

Hi I do think that most of boats "for sale" are unwanted, why emphasies on "unwanted" ?.
Yes, tthere are some "cheap" Manitous, but the reason for it is: not hull or deck structure it is what is inside. Most of hull and deck packages (as per ad in papers" were sold as per add there was option for "factory fitted out" to the requaiments by the buyer. In Tulak case some elements (of the furniture) were particle board, the first owner was desperate to start crusing and i do not blame him. . Ask owners of 27/28" boats, are they happy with storage capacity on their boats?. Manitous main cabin is same lenght, but "beamier" plus there is "grany flat" to be used as per owner desire, for lousy 5' extra.
Sorry, but your statement about ketch configuration indicates that nobody yet show you how to use it to your benefit.
Your next line indicate that you do not agree with designed lenght to beam ratio, well -"if we do not have what we like, we do like what we have got".
And finaly if ever any of the Manitous will lose balast it will indicate that osmosis went trough 3/4" of solid F/G .

How are you going up in Happy Rock Chez??

I think the Manitou 32 is a very successful yacht given the number of them around. Unfortunately some of them were finished off cheaply (chipboard etc) and that tends to drag down the price/value of the better ones.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Friend had a Manitou here. Had a bit of osmosis so he had her lifted out to dry out for a year [never a good idea]. He ground out the bits and let her sit under cover in a paddock. After 3 years he lost interest and sold her off and moved to Tasmania. New owner filled the hull and reinstalled the rigging. She was particularly well fitted out and the new owner got a good deal.

Actually Manitulak, I quite like the ketch rig. The reason i said it could be a problem was that a collegue who built one many years ago complained that it was too much trouble to sail due to all the "strings."

Similarly I am not a fan of wide beam boats, but was just speculating that others may be.

The guy in Seven Hills has a prominent ad looking for people who just want to get rid of their boats. He has many ads in Gumtree and E-Bay. They typically have lists of the good and bad bits and his "Terms and Conditions". Looks like there are many people who cant be bothered with cleaning up and selling their boats themselves, and this guy is providing a service.

Hi Yara, why you did not say it? Your response shine ligt on the subject on 180 deg. Now I feel guilty (only inside) for maybe too harsh response.
I do belive that every one of seabrieeze members got pride of their posesion and they will "stand their ground" defending their posesion value as I did. Yes we discus pro and cons of various boats but it is unlakely that We seabreeze comunity colectively will create frame for the "ideal boat" and every one of us will be owning one. Will it stop us from posting pros and cons?. Im not shure if it was about boat discusions, but somebody said - "show must go on"- and it does, it is wonderfull, so much to lern from.

Yes, Cisco "you do speak truth". Sometimes we fergot that boat/yacht is a compromise betwen many "wants or needs". In fact it is only fiew squere meters to acomodate ours needs and no room to store "extras".
Of the topick: Happy Stone is slowly ( wery slow) regaining its status of beeing usefull stop over for this time north bounded sailors. It is first hand info because Tulak is moored in marina due to draw bridge repairs and Tulak is no longer on backyard chanel pole moring. For the last fiew weeks on average four boats come and go (speaking of sails only). For boats 10m and over it is compulsorary to report on chanel 13 and folow instructions. Barge trafic is not as dense as before, some of them left the area and as "gosip says" next year it will be back to " normal", but it maybe politoking " what ever it will be, you be right, mate".
Apologies to the seabreeze members who not plan to visit "Happy Stone" for this useless info, but you are wecom if your change your mind.
Im not paid for abowe statement, I do support myself without authorities help.
