Pretty much sums it up. Throw the HF radio away and purchase a Fleetbroadband system with a handheld sat phone in your grab bag. Also get a Spot tracker device or similar. Satellite communications are the only way to go.
If **** hits the fan have AMSA on speed dial and tell them that you are about to set off the EPIRB. Then send an email confirming your situation. Remember that HF is power hungry and won't work with low batteries. Sat phone is portable and can carry spare batteries.
