Thanks Chris, every little clue is very useful. She's looking nice on the hard with her new black antifouling. Getting started on that long list of jobs!
And here she is. A Compass Northerner 28 shown in all her splendour in Kirribilli, Sydney (well, a cat can look at a king!). In date rigging, a volvo md2020 repower engine and a bit of original cuteness inside. For those that worried about my no shower comments, I found a cockpit shower on poking around (although the water is not connected to anything at present ). Survey and sea trial came up well and she's looking great after the antifoul. The teak, decks and inside were very dirty but have scrubbed up very well.
We found a few presents lurking in the odd corners of the boat; a hand held radio, a brand new Plastimo 130 bulkhead compass and new rope. A nice bonus. The box of goodies in the boat yard included a tender and 20l of diesel in a jerry.
No major jobs, just the normal long list of minor ones. A good first yacht at a great price I think. When I've honed my boat repair skills on this one, I might join HG in an H28 - quite fancy a ketch!
Thanks to forum members for their comments. Whilst I'm doing her up, there will be lots more questions. Once I've done it, I'll be boring you with my "wisdom"
If you see Alibi on your travels, please come and say hello.
Beautiful Boat!!!
I was also lucky to get a whole heap of lil surprises on the boat(Apart from the junk, like old plant pots etc)
there was a hand held Garmin, Alan Lucas Book, Ipod Touch full of great music and some Musto wet weather gear. Well over a grands worth of stuff.
Do you have any photo's of her out of the water
Regards Don
Hi Don, here are a couple of shots of Alibi on the hard today. Gave the topsides the careful once over to take out all the scuffs, wrestled with a very old rego sticker and filled the "propeller access hole" that whoever installed the engine had put in the rudder today. Can't wait for the relaunch tomorrow.
looking great!!! shes beautiful. ill see you on the harbour.
thank you.
Friend of mine has one of these for sale locally too if anyone is interested. Up on the slips Tuesday if you want to see the hull out of the water.
Well, just to round this one off, we are now in pittwater, having sailed all the way from Sydney. SW winds to 25 knots. She sails well, but we are falling off the wind on tacking, probably too much jib. 1st reef gave us good boat speed and reasonable comfort. Some more fine tuning and practice then the next hop North. Cheers all.
