My pick would be a Freedom 33 cat ketch
There nicely fitted out just have to watch the balsa core make sure everything is seal up well other wise you are in trouble

au.yachtworld.com/core/listing/cache/searchResults.jsp?man=Freedom+33

Im not a big fan of the old wish bone rigs

What boat would you buy??

I'd buy a Catalina 28 MKII.

There a well set up boat inside its quite amazing how they have fitted them out and fitted so much in a small package

That's exactly what I like about them HG, great layout, lines run back to the cockpit, wheel steer on a 28'er, wet area next to the companionway, no more dragging wet gear through the boat, lots of thought put into the design and layout, perfect single womans' pocket cruiser :).

My first yacht was a Catalina 28... I've sailed in 34 footers that felt less roomy.

Anyone want to go halves or quarters in a Moody DS 54?? Please

I'm going to have to stop reading this thread, it's torture.

Hanse / Moody use the same hull for the Moody 54DS and the Hanse 575, and yes they are a great boat to sail, but I prefer the lay out of my 575, and can not think of a better all round boat to own. A Moody 54DS will run you into about $1,600,000.00. after you tick a few boxes.

Is that for the solar or genset version? damit I want the all solar with washing machine and R/C!

Read between the lines southace. I have been sailing on Jode7, a Hanse 575, it is the duck's nuts and he did not pay $1.6 mill for it.

I am reading between the line.....my preference would be to go all solar and wind power if money where no option. Just for the added peace. Hence why I was asking do you need to run a Genset to keep a $1.6 mill yacht up and running.
regards.

I cant see how boats of similar size and construction (structure) and of a similar 'floor plan', can vary so much in price. So it must come down to fitout and equipment quality as well as the amount of 'options' fitted.

For 1.6 clams, I would be expecting a genset, whether you use it or not. My personal opinion, once you've used a genny, you'll always want one.

You only have to use a genset if you have to!
If you have enough solar you don't have too!

Or enough battery for that solar to go into

It might just be my batteries and or invertor (2000w), but I can barely boil some water or use a toaster before the low batt alarm on the invertor goes off. For me, it is easier (except when on shore pwr), to use the genset.

My friends live off the grid for 2 month periods they don't have a genset and there battery's are most of the time charged to 100% I'm learning lots from them even home brewing stout!

Southace, you must remember people who buy boat over the 1m mark usually like all their creature comforts (me included). On my boat alone we have 4 a/cond units 2 fridges and freezer, decell unit, 3 televisions, satellite dome, 5 kg washer dryer, microwave, all normal electric kitchen appliances, electric hot water, lots of electronics including 3 plotters, all electric winches, electric bow and stern thrusters, 120amp charger and heaps of lighting to name a few. To run all this we use solar which will just hold things in good day light by you still need a good generator. We have a 10kva (32 amps) generater and 1600Ah's of batteries. It is a complete different world to what you are used to. This is why these boats cost so much. Yes I did not pay !.6, but not much less but my wife is very happy and as they say "Happy wife, happy life"

But is it going to change anything

Jode5, that was the point I was trying to make. It's the creature comforts that can very quickly add to the cost....

I believe I own the Kalik 33 you may be speaking of, You are the only person I have come across who seems to know something about them, I would love to find out how you know about them and what you know, I haven't seen any others around. I have spent quite a bit of money on it since I got it, and aint finished yet, look forward to your reply

Beautiful boat.

I notice the owner is very interested in sex.

Yes, that's a pretty unusual interest for a boat owner.

Who has time for that when you own an old boat
