He's a broker, gets em in and gets em out fast. If he gets no bites might go no reserve on ebay so might be cheaper still. He still gets a small cut/ you get a bigger slice of cash to throw at an old boat and everyone's happy for the most part.

I'd personally stay clear of this though due to the amount of potential ongoing and soul destroying rust accumulation. (Think pushing a snowball up a hill) I had one that is now apparently a permanent fixture to Greenwell point's sand bar!

For me it is a very sad picture. Speaks of decline and decay as old age gets us and the dreams turn to rust and filth....

Hi Lazz and BB.
I am not lamenting the ticking of the clock.
In fact I am taking joy from everyday.
I was rejecting Yara's doom and gloom post.
And with summer here life is good.

Wow she's not moving anytime soon, Dave put a curse or two on her I hear,

I was solo diving about 50 metres from that spot, searching a sunken buoy totally disoriented and confused could hardly see me hands in front of me was so murky and sharky . never again!

The water is crystal clear now. A few weeks ago there were 3 bull sharks cruising around the area. One was caught and dragged up the boat ramp.

Bluebird classic. Not cheap but in top condition. Saw one in a twilight race early 80s on the main Sydney Harbour course in a stiff noreaster Rushcutters Bay to Nielsen Park and back beat a very well sailed Farr 727 of the day "Corfu". It might have been the exact same yacht. A timeless design imho and still sails as fast and well as similar sized yachts except for sports boats obviously.

Yes have thoughts but it depends on what you want to do with the yacht. Around 6,600 of them were built in numerous keel and rig configurations since 1970 - add another 400 if you include the UK version Jaguar 27. There are many videos and review links on line including FB page of the Catalina 27 and a bit longer Catalina models.

Thanks!

What I want is a cruising yacht with minimal maintenance, mostly inside harbour / pittwater etc but capable for some offshore voyages up and down the coast.
Here is another I hope to look at this weekend.

Cripes a lot different boat to the shoal draft wing keeled Catalina 27 which has the hull design circa 1970. There was a standard keel, deeper keel, shoal draft winged keel and two different rig sizes. Build quality as mentioned in many reviews on line is probably not as good as the NS30.
The NS30 is the Peterson Santana 30 1/2 ton circa 1975 IOR design, with step added to transom - see here; but I see your boat has the original transom with a ladder - so still easy to board. If it is called "Santana" as evidenced maybe it is a Santana 30.............but the condition looks like a 1990 build so could be NS built before they changed the transom to include the step. Check with the dealer whoever that is - normally dealers will advise their name.

The NS30 is a far better boat and I would simply go and buy it pronto, forget the C27. Good diesel (Kubota based) and seems well kept. 4 sails. How old is standing rigging? Expect need to survey it for comprehensive insurance.

You've probably seen this link - seems like around 1978 design not 1975.

Could be worth looking at this - 12 years older, asking price nearly 1/2.

Thanks! Hard to tell from the photos but might be a bit rough?

I didn't manage to get out this weekend but will do soon. Will try to look at this other NS30 at the same time:

If you are going for Peterson 30 make it a Peterson SP 30. One of the best performing 30 ft yachts ever and not designed to a racing rule. I think it is what Troubador has. They are beamier and have a tansom hung rudder.

Ok hope it goes well. Sure it could be a bit rough - as reflected in the price. That one at $35k has the transom "sugar scoop" step which makes boarding from a dinghy a lot easier. Looks in very good nick as expected for 96 build.
