Hi All,

Riding on the back of what looked like an enjoyable weekend for our Eastern state Seabreezers, I thought it would be a nice idea to try the same here.

It would be awesome if we could coincide a weekend away with the next Brisbane trip, but that is not likely to happen for some time yet. What I am proposing is for two WA trips next year, as we are coming into the silly season and everyone is starting to get busy before christmas.

What are the thoughts on an easy get-a-away to Rotto in early February as a bit of a tester, and then again in October/November coinciding with the Brisbane (and possibly other states) trip? The second one could even be further afield (say Geograph Bay) to give others in WA an opportunit.

Your opinions are welcomed

October and November usually means strong SW winds
Great for coming back north.
March is excellent weather for Bussleton either side of the race week.

Great idea! Same as RiffRiff, if it doesn't clash with work, I'm in.

Just ideas at this stage Riff. Busselton might be a bit far anyway. Dawesville would probably be a good compromise for those further south if we went that way. But we could consider that later in he year

Rottnest Channel Swim is on 27 Feb.

Anyone going to Geographe Race Week? (13-19 Feb).

Feb is lookimg like a busy month. Considering RiffRaff already has a mooring booked on the 22nd, let's aim for that. I know Rottnest can be a bit expensive though, so I am still open to suggestions.. Mangles has plenty of free overnight moorings or either side of Garden Is.(I've never been game to go on the West side though).....

FreeRadical, if your heading down for race week and need a hand delivering your boat there or back, let me know, I may be able to lend a hand..

Well aren't I off to a flying start. Filling you all full of confidence no doubt.

Would the preference be to move the date forward to the 6th Feb or back to March, say the 5th? Or is everyone like me and it doesn't really matter because work will through a spanner into the mix anyway

22nd is a Monday, I will be in Rotto from the 21st through 23rd
Unfortunately I will be in Darwin before the 21st and home for just the one week.
Rottnest is definitely expensive and if there are any other alternatives for the week I am open to change. Mangles bay is close to home for me and options like Port Coogee at Woodman's point and Warnbro Sound are also viable alternatives. Not sure about North of Freo.

I don't mind when it is, as long as we settle on a date by start of Jan so I can get my roster requests in. I can do 22nd, doesn't have to be a weekend for me. Also not fussed where we go, we have a Rotto Pass and shared mooring (not strictly for Thomson Bay but means we can grab one there if available).

Any update on this?

I run the sailing in company group at Nedlads Yacht Club and we are planning a day trip to Carnac on 10th January. Anyone interested in coming along?

Hi Microbe,

There hasn't really been any update thus far. I'll put it out there (based on previous posts) that we make it February 21st to 22nd so we can at least set a date. I know it is a Sunday/Monday, but we could make the Sunday the official catch up day for those that can't take Monday off.

Microbe, your group are more then welcome to join us. Unfortunately I can't join you in January, but that doesn't mean the others cant.

Hi Toph,

Great idea by the way - Cant have too much Rotto time.
(just a thought) Wouldn't make more sense to make it Sat 20th to Sunday 21st Feb to allow for people who work to come ?
Whatever date is chosen I guess I'm saying Sat-Sun would seem more logical than Sun-Mon.
I'd suggest a group dinner on the Sat night (location to be determined by group)

Sat 12th March and Sunday 13th March is my yacht clubs annual run to Rottnest.
Its called the Billy Run and comprises a racing section and a cruising section starting off Freo
and ending in Thompson Bay Rotto.
The sail across is monitored and escorted by our larger power boats.
It would represent a good option for any less experienced seabreezer's to come along and be supervised.
Plus give our event numbers a boost. Again just a thought.

For the second trip 2016, I'd like to nomimate Cruising yacht club in Rockingham.
longer sail than to Rotto but closer than Busselton , sheltered moorings. Windward to get there - downwind home.
Clubhouse right on the beach , very hospitable club , good food, cheap drinks , showers and a bathroom.
They would likely have moorings we could hire and would likely be keen to support any group of sailors
keen to use their club.

Just my thoughts

cheers

Hi Sunseeker39,

I understand what you are saying regarding the set date. I really don't mind what date it is or where we go. It is just that for the last three weeks there was only 2 responses plus mine and a Sunday/Monday suited the three. Riff Raff already has a mooring booked for the 21st, so it seemed ok at the time to make it that date. FreeRadical and myself at this stage seem to be flexible but both of us will need to settle on a date very soon. If we get more interest, then I suppose it could be more of a majority vote. But as I said, it needs to be settled soon. I feel we keep this one to around that weekend, and any additional trips away are just a bonus.

As for your suggestion for the second trip to Rockingham, I agree.. I think (these days) Mangles Bay and it's foreshore is a little under rated.

Open for suggestions.

Evening folks. Is there a consensus on the date for this? I think to be fair a majority vote would be best.

Free Radical and I are going to need to put requests in soon regardless of the actual days.

Maybe 20th, 21st, 22nd Feb or part thereof. We usually race on Sunday's, but that's fine, I could come over Sat early arvo and pop back Sunday morning for the race if the other owners really want to race. Then back again for Sun night. I can get those 3 days off no worries and that currently gives the best overall timeframe for those that have expressed interest so far.

Also, as from the Macgregor thread. Anyone interested in heading in convoy to the Abrolhos in April? I'm thinking 7-10 days during school holidays (wife and kids will be interstate so I'm free, school holidays start 8th Apr). The plan would be directly there from Perth, explore for 3-4 days and direct back or short resupply in Geraldton. I might be looking for crew as well if the other owners aren't interested. Let me know if you are keen!

I won't go in convoy because my current tub is a stinky.. I might be interested in crewing. Depends on what holidays I can get.

I'm still waiting on my roster.

Would the preference be for a BBQ at Thompsons Bay or a meal at the pub or cafe.. I am happy with either, but think a BBQ would be nice. That's not to say a few beverages won't be consumed at the Quokka Arms. I will also try the same as Seabird and see if I can get anything from Lauire that will help us stand out (not that we want to give Seabreeze a bad name)

On the Sunday.

Ive dropped the ball a bit on this as I was preoccupied with family stuff. I will try and be a little more with it for the other one at the end of the year..

Folks,

i am not going to be able to make this weekend. two reasons, my tub is out of service at the moment and other people have different ideas for me ie work..

If my boat gets the attention it needs, I may be able to sneak over on the Monday. I will leave it up to you guys what you would like to do, but it is probably easiest to just swap phone numbers and catch up at the Quakka Arms or on the beach. Something simple like that.

Sorry i I haven't led this one too well. I spent some time over east with a sick family member and seem to have lit the candle at both ends so to speak.

hopefully do a better job for one at the end of the year..
