6000 Ringgit is not exactly cheap, especially in duty free Langkawi. Make sure you drop into the Royal Langkawi Yacht club ........ 5 Ringgit for a tall glass of cold Tiger can't be all bad and good food too.
Stage 1 of the new cockpit floor, raised 6mm so it falls towards the drain, 19m marine ply with 600g double bias epoxied on top.
Raising that 6mm is an excellent idea Andy, no more wet socks!

The Gecko Mini Mart in Pantai Chenang has 500ml cans of 12% German beer for RM1.90, if 12% is a bit much they have 8% for the same price, really helps you get to sleep in the heat.

Well I have reached a major milestone today with the successful installation of 56 cm of new sail track [my design] on the mast.
This will allow me to put in a reef correctly.
We actually went sailing today on the mooring when we had the mainsail up!
My sail maker will now fix the boom bag and make a new bag for the inflatable dinghy which I have decided to carry
roped to the starboard rail just forward of the mast.
Tomorrow night or Sunday I will spend the night on board to sort out the wiring to the mast head lights. They work, just not with the right switches!
I will also be having a final sort out, during that time onboard, to remove the last of the unnecessary gear.
The horizontal wind vane I'm building is now at the painting stage with only one support bracket to be fitted to Seaka
and a small weld when I do the final assembly. Its looking really good.
On the 23rd I go up on the Laurieton slip for 3 days for anti-foul [4 coats this time] and a polish. Then I'm ready to go around!
Sailing date is still around the middle of March.

Yesterday
I wired in the oil pessure gage and volt meter I have over 3 bar at idle (engine slightly cold) which I am happy with I ran lots of Tycab twin core on the starboard side for all my lighting and entertainment set up speakers yet to do with 3 mm Tycab double insulated ( an over kill but I don't want to have to redo it before I drop dead )which I used for all my LED lighting.
I also made a ply under bench top for my fridges one yet to be purchased . photo below is my tempo mountings

I then started fitting my throttle/gear shift to where I wanted it away from the cockpit locker forward from the original placement and ahd to relocate my cables
to suit had it all pretty much done then disaster struck the throttle cable came off the engine end and as I moved the throttle handel forward it went to far so I now have to disassemble and hopefully repair it. I hate forwards backwards land
It reminds me of a time when I was building a small PC and dropped the CPU onto the pins on the mother board I have it on my bed room in a draw so when I open it it reminds me of that stuff up
Ill seal it with some Cabots Floor clear as I'm out of resin at the moment I think it should be OK. The fridges will rest on all four corners and then I have to make a bench top that the lids hinge off and make the lids and bench top flush with each other . Really looking forward to this part . Oh well its learning curve.
I redcued the widths of the shutters I bought off ebay Ill use a couple of them for a saloon door at the forward cabin others Ill frame and add several panels so it can be part of the fridge cabinet in front of the fridge boxes. Ill use the off cuts as there straight as a die and very strong Ive stood in the middle of one 1.4 length and it didn't break or flex much
This is a piece off the shutters I wonder what wood it actually is it light seem impervious to water damage as there been on the side of a house for many many years . After cutting it its has a slight pink color its to light a weight to be a hard wood . When I compare it to other teak I have here it maybe but not sure.
Some I have has been cut a certain way and this seems to match up to th above . Ill use it any way

It's not Teak R2D2, more likely it's Meranti which also goes under a variety of other names depending where you are eg. Lauan or Philippine mahogany plus other names overseas. The tree is native to SE Asia and is very commonly imported into Australia for exactly the kind of thing that you have there.
It looks like silky oak to me.
I rubbed some teak oil on a small part it didn't come up real well Cisco I thing I will have to put some stain on shutters.
Id like to match them up to the louvered doors I've just completed

Teak is very tight grained and also quite boring to look at, Silky Oak while it is not a true oak has the same rays visible that true oaks exhibit, neither of those timbers would usually be used for such a utilitarian piece such as louvre doors.

The lower piece in the photo is teak the top is the shutter timber
When I tried to rub teak oil into to it it seemed a little impervious to the oil . It would not soak in

A Kitchen/ Cabinet maker used to call some wood South African" beeper wood" so that's what it is from now on So add that to your brain archive Loose change
I some how feel its the way the timbers been cut off the tree . Ill give a piece a good sand tomorrow wash it with some timber wash and let it dry and then oil it again
