Here is the hull prep well underway, it is starting to feel like its becoming a real boat at last.
This is the 20mm foam and inner glass being laid up.
And here she is getting prepped for the vacuum infusion process....
So far, everything is on track for slipping in September. The next step is to focus on the Aus end, shipping and customs and duty paperwork (sigh). I am thinking of getting Sydney Rigging to step the mast, as having no backstay, the worlds weirdest vang, and a CF mast puts it outside of my engineering capabilities to tune and bed it in.
Has anybody got any recommendations on a good rigger in Qld? The mast tuning to me is a critical component, and I am assuming that this would be challenging compared to a normal fracitonal rig. Or am I just over thinking it?

This might sound really dumb, but could you cut out the centre angle iron and mount it from underneath the wooden bowsprit? This was the rollers would sit proud, as would the pulpit, but the metal work would be kinda hidden?
Probably dumb, but it would make it look cleaner?
I've looked at that Idea and will be considering it . Another idea that crossed my mind as buying or making some thing like below
and mounting it beside the teak bowsprit and mounting it to the deck and maybe a s/s plate under the bowsprit timber for support

Do you need two rollers, or is this just how it is at the moment?
This is a sistership of my yet to be born boat, this looks like the same arrangement as what you are thinking of.
I thought this wouldn't have enough structural bite when you look at the mounting, but Structures have reported no failures.
Mind you, the dry weight is only 5.5ton, so I don't know if I'd do this on a heavy boat!
The Walkers have a displacement of 5000 KG and 2500 kg of lead in her keel.
The only time Id need two rollers would be on a mooring maybe other wise Id have to remove the anchor so the roller could be used on the swing mooring

This is what you pay the big bucks for but no doubt worth it in the end. This yacht is high tech.
For rigging in Brisbane I recommend you contact these guys. I have not dealt with them for years but I have found them very helpful with advice and seem to cater to the little guys equally as well as the big guys.

The other Brisbane based rigger is Lambourne Rigging. General opinion seems to be that he is damn expensive but give him a try anyway. His shop is well set up.

It's weird, as the boom is so close to the cabin top, the traditional vang doesn't fit, so it actually has a line running under the boom that connects to a hardpoint near the toerail either side of the cockpit. If you think of a classic gybe preventer, that's exactly what it looks like. (It is actually classed as a gybe preventer also)
I suppose the need for a vang in the traditional sense is offset somewhat by the beam. At 4.5mtr beam, it is a hell of a long traveller.

That is nowhere near the standard of anything else you have done to the boat. Even if you polished it, it is going to look out of place.
For a 5 tonne yacht it is overkill. Keep looking around and I am sure you will find a good off the shelf solution.
Something like this would not be too hard to fabricate using 4 or 5 mm plate. If you had a plate across the bow sprit with four plates (2 aside) welded to it but angled a bit as in the bottom pic.
It will be strong enough and look more professional than that angle iron thing.
Dived my boat again yesterday to put the anode on the prop shaft. Did exactly what you're not supposed to do - dropped half of the sphere in the process. Descended but couldn't find it in the silt. Back to square one. :|
That reminds me of coming back in to harbour one day against an offshore westerly pushing up a wee bit of chop.
We were just outside the leads when we heard the outboard over-rev more than usual.
Looked back in time to see it jump off the bracket and disappear into the depths at full revs.
Owner had forgot to tie on the outboard

Well Cisco Ive 6 coats on my timber except for my stay sail timber which has one coat .
Donk will be please that solar panel is gone
its now on EBay a dam cheap panel for some one 6 months old and works really well . Theres a new one on ebay for $500 mine starts at $180
It did cross my mind on the way home with it on to roof . I wonder if you could remove the glass and cover it with some thing else as there flexible under neath 300 att senmi fleible would be just right on the cabin top shade always going to be a pain.
Forgot to take a photo of the benny swift 34 will later she got a lick of Sikens today as well .
Well I'm off to see a fabrication mob to weld in a second rail on my bow rail.

donk thanks for the solar post.... i have seen a 3mm thick flexy panel working, that weighs nothing and cost almost as much ......... the whole solar panel /storage ,battery industry is going off atm ...................very exiting times we live in !!!!

We cut out and fitted the main cabin floor on the Tugboat over the weekend. The console was next and today installed more fixtures including the engine dashboard,electrical switch panel, Morse throttle/gearbox cables, along with the Hydrive steer.
All in all,a good day's worth and probably used every swear word known to man today.
Select the anchor first HO2 and then build your bow roller to suit. Personally the Marsh anchor I have is the best and I highly recommend it but having a bowsprint makes any anchor awkward unless it's set up right....most bowsprint boats will hold a admiralty anchor the best I have a 20 kg one for sale will suit a 12 tonne yacht.
The other option is to get a small light weight Sarca anchor with I guess all chain and make sure you try to anchor in 2 to 5 meters of water most of the times as you should.
