HAve been getting back into Downwind foiling a bit of late. It is truely the ultimate in Foiling. It is potentially a long and challenging road, but worth every bit when you get some golden glides in the middle of no where.
Both runs here are in Broken Bay, where I Winged up to Flint and steel beach and packed down my wind then paddle foiled back down wind. This is in offshore (Westerly) winds, and hence no swells. Just wind chop. It is such a buzz surfing offshore without waves.
The first run was much more succeful than the second, but still super fun. Both videos are cut of a continual run.
So much fun, and looking forward to doing some more.
Enjoy,
JB
Holy **** your living the dream.. Is this as fun as it looks?
Video from yesterday, I'm riding the Cabrhina H1000 rest of the boys including Dale on the Sup Lift 120HA
Long video but a great day where all 4 riders rode both the Cabrinha H650 & Axis ART 799 . Two very good tow wings . Overall consensus the Cab turned tighter and smoother especially from turn to turn but the Axis had way more glide and pump still turns well but not like the Cab . The Axis was on a 86 Carbon & the Cab on a 80 carbon mast . 350P rear on the Axis , 175 Kujira rear on the Cabrinha. Will try the 300P on the Axis next session to see if that loosens it up more.
Holy Crap!! That is possibly the best foil wave/setup I have ever seen
Heading over east in a few weeks might have to check it out
A good spot, but super sharky, frequent sightings from surfers/foilers and local fishermen recently caught 6 bull sharks in a day...

So I guess just jump the point, take it to the beach and don't fall off!
The first guy certainly wasn't spending much time down in the water, that first ride must have been up around 1.5km!!
Mate was riding the other day and wave died short of the beach so he starting pumping to get there and then saw a shark and fell off .His heartbeat was maxing out by the time he paddled to shore !
It will be fine Breezy they only have small sharks over there
Yeah I am on a sup as well so as long as there's a couple normal surfers out I definitely won't be first on the menu
Then there is this spot which is twice as long a ride
That's what dreams are made of !!

Still only ~600 views too.

Foils are shark armour

I see you can park your boat on the shore as well

I internet sleuthed out and found this spot, it's not exactly a secret spot anyway. Will be alot easier for me to get to south west Rocks than up there. Or just hang in byron and hit wattegoes with adam bennets and the 1000's of bikini chicks. Or go to Lennox or ballina or hit the many points of the goldy. Damn there are so many amazing foiling waves over east!
What a day wake foiling behind a 90' Ocean Alexandra Super Yacht. They were doing a photo shoot for the up coming boat show and wanted some foilers in the wake .

At least he reversed in!
I just got back from my trip over east. My assumption that the East Coast has an abundance of epic foiling conditions and setups was definitely right! I had such a great trip.
Conditions didn't line up for the south west rocks wave and the wind and swell mostly wasn't favourable for the point breaks. The sort of everyday beachbreak conditions around northern NSW that I used to find unappealing were really awesome for foiling. The softer shorter period swells ( as compared to WA) were so much easier to ride and so much fun. Smooth wally sand bottomed and very shreddable. Connecting waves in shorter period swells is totally cheating! I was doing 3 for 1"s without batting an eyelid which for a 100kg rider on sup that's not a common thing.
Did manage to squeeze in a couple of really good point sessions including one very small onshore session at Snapper rocks/ the superbank. It was about 1 to 2 foot with wind at the worst possible direction but that meant it was uncrowded enough that I could actually foil it. Got some really long fast rides chasing the little swells down the sand bank and almost managed to make it through to kirra.
Surprisingly my best session was when I was visiting my sister down in Sydney. My trip coincided with their recent run of big south swells. It was mostly too big on the open beaches and too strong westerly to ride waves in the bays. On the Queens birthday the wind finally dropped off and there were nice clean head high swells shoaling into one of Sydney's many bays. The waves were standing up against the outgoing tide, breaking, backing off, breaking again, backing off again and doing this for over a kilometer across a sand bottom. Foil heaven!! Being a public holiday there would have been more than 50 people enjoying the waves on every type of craft imaginable. Me and 1 other sup foiler, a bunch of prone foilers, a couple tow foilers, sup surfers, long boards, wave skis, kids on nippers surf life saving boards and a fair bit of boat and jetski traffic. Despite the numbers it was a big playing field with lots of waves coming through so didn't seem crowded and everyone was having a ball!! It was like a paddle/surf/foil convention. I dont use a gps watch but by my estimates, as measured on google earth, I think I might have cracked the 1 kilometer wave !! That was a bit of a milestone I was hoping to get to and a great way to top off an epic trip.
Can definitely recommend a holiday to the east coast, particularly north NSW and the Goldy. Epic foiling conditions and a holiday that the Mrs will love too.
