I've been riding GFs for sup foiling and winging specifically the the Iwa in bigger waves, the M200 in smaller waves and the M280 winging and currently am awaiting my 1st Axis 1020/500 w short fuse to arrive for winging as hoping it will be a upgrade from GF M280 for winging??I was looking for a few recommendations on axis wings for supfoiling and winging in higher winds,as the 1020 will be too large I'm thinking on decent size waves so any thoughts on a front and rear wing for supfoiling waist headhigh waves and winging in higher winds from axis especially for a heavier rider 225lbs,I really did not care much for the Gofoil HA GL series prefer the LA older wings Iwa/ Maliko style, love them in the waves. But since I've got a Axis coming soon like to get a smaller back up to my 1020/500 combo for winging in higher winds and ride supfoiling any suggestions for a front/back wing for supfoiling for larger rider? Also a Axis S-wings for kitefoiling recommendations be nice too as I'd like to test the axis kitefoiling too down the line.thank

I am ****e at SUP foiling, but you will find the 1010+400 (or smaller) and the Ultra Short fuselage super fun winging. Faster than than 1020 and super loose.

What is your approx weight? If your close to 225lb be curious you're take on lift and overall winging Performance characteristics of the 1010 vs 1020 in semi lighter days,I just received my 1020 today and albeit never tried it out yet but in a overlay comparison of my Gofoil M280 it's quite a bit smaller and just keeping my fingers crossed that I made right decision as I thought it was gonna be pretty similar size to my old M280 hope it has equal to or better lift for a HW,I will soon find out must say very impressed with the build quality of the Axis real nice, I might be a candidate for the 1150 if it's a bit bigger if it is in fact when they become available.Super stoked to get the 1020/500 in the drink ASAP and have test run looking forward to it,like a kid in the candy store trying new equipment

231lbs ......

1020 is much better for the semi lighter days than the 1010. At our weights, it is easy to pump too hard on the 1010 at slow speeds and collapse the board back to the water. Never an issue on the 1020, pump as hard as you like.

I pulled out the 1010, 1020 and Naish 2450 a few weeks back on 4m wing day. It was up and down a lot. The Naish 2450 is much bigger than the 1020, and is much slower. The low end difference between the two of them is minor. So I got rid of Naish and kept the 1020.

I see the 1150 as my mid to high wind foil for kite, SUP foil and Winging.

I'm finally getting some wing foil time. After struggling for months on a 900 getting nowhere, I got a 920 / 440 and it was an immediate improvement. What size wing and rear would you use for Maui trades 17-25knots for wingfoiling... ??

Alysum said..I realise that surface area doesn't mean much these days but it's hard to understand on paper how Moses, Fanatic etc... all have HA/fast wings with 2000+ surface area which are popular for winging, and Axis does not. What's the secret with Axis wide HA wings

Axis has been bringing out foils up to 1430 cm nothing bigger and that is very very disappointing to us!

We (3 persons)have a full quiver ( 6 front foils)of Axis foils for wing, sup and prone and I was tempted to get another S1020 or a big foil from another brand because we all wanted to use the S1020.... we have small waves and light winds in summer

And now we will try to wait for the S1150 hoping it will not disappoint ..

We don't want to wait until the end of August, when we have to go back to work!

Armstrong 2400 and Moses 1100 are tempting....

Not sure on your weight and skill levels/technique but there's a reason on the shall wings..
Do yourself a favour and demo something big for a few days before you jump in and purchase, big wings are terrible once you've got something small dialled

Beg to disagree, at 105kg I really enjoy my Armstrong 2400 on 10 to 15 knot days. The 1550 always feels a bit under done until 15+. Looking forward to the HS1850.

Hello, does anyone test the flat rear 460 for winging? And is it only design for the 1010. Gracie !!

Yes I did , the 1010 and 460 are great for paddle down wind but for the wingding I didn't like the combo it slides when you reach and want to point high . The new Anheral 395 is my best pick but the 400 & 440 work well for the ding as well .

Yep I agree with this, I got a 1010 plus the 460 and 390 rears recently and my thoughts are the same.
Although the 460 is fast and slippery feeling, I felt for winging with the 1010 I prefer the 390 (or the 400), just seems to be a bit more controllable.
I haven't had the chance to give it much of a try though, I will have to give it another go it may just take a while to get used to it.

Hey Boys,
Just curious what is the advantage of a flat rear, is it less drag with no turned up or down wingtips.
If so does a flat anhedral solve the skating problem with no drag penalty?

For sure there is less drag with the 460 and that is it's advantage, I'm sure there is a bit of a drag penalty with the 390 but that's why it has a bit more of a locked in feel.
However, for me, I feel its worth the slight drag penalty to have a bit more control, especially with the wing.
For paddle down wind it might be a different story though, I haven't tried it.

I've used the 1000 and 460 combo winging. This is my current preferred AXIS set-up. I'll use the 101 front wing when less than 15knots.
At first I didn't like 460 tail as it is very slippery and loose. However I have learnt to love it.
The 460 is definitely not as stable as the 400 or 390, but for me I enjoy the speed increase and reduced drag of the thin tail.
I have tried the 460 with the small 680 behind the boat towing and this combo works great also.

Yep as I said I will have to try it again, I'm sure I will love its efficiency.
Trying the 460 and the ultra short-fuse both for the first time at the same time was probably just too much of a change.
I found it much harder to do foot changes etc than it usually is with the 400 and short fuse I had been using for months.

In summer we have very small waves most of the time. They break on very shallow sandbanks so we have to use a 60 cm or 68 cm mast and sometimes even a 45 cm...
Without pumping the rides are 2 seconds at the most. This makes it very important to have the best setup for pumping to make it possible to pump back and catch a second wave.
My setup: S1020, short fuse, 400 rear, mast as long as possible 68 at the most and a 6'6 sup.
I can catch very small waves with this gear and pump for about 10 sec towards the beach but I struggle when I turn to go back and find another wave. I know I have to spend a lot of time on the water and work on my fitness but I have to make sure that my setup is the right one.
I also have the S1010 but the waves are so small that the S1020 is much easier to get flying.
Should I get another rear? 390,440 or 460? Any other tips?

I am not prone foiling, but I wing on the 1020 and 440 rear. Today I swapped out the rear 440 and installed the 370 rear.

Everything became faster, turns were more fun, and pumping/release seemed be easier.

I am a sup foiler and a wing foiler, also not prone foiling too stiff to learn that @64yo...

For winging I use the 1020 when the wind is under 20 knots and I use the 400 because my daughter confiscated the 370.
No problem . I could probably get away with a 340 when the wind is over 15 knots.

But for sup foiling in mini waves and pumping back for a second wave I need to use a rear that gets me up on the foil and doesn't slow me down.

Yesterday I tried the S1020 in mini waves, short fuse , 68 mast (shallow sandbank) and 460 rear and it was great!
It took a bit more effort to get up on the foil but once up it was much more fun and much faster once I got used to it.
I could take a break from pumping whenever I found a little wave to ride, I managed to fly from the sandbank to speed up in the beachbreak to kick out and pump back to the sandbank, didn't make it all the way but stoked!

Try that 1010 with the ultra short fuselage and 340 rear, you'll be getting way more waves with less effort. The 340 rear keeps lift in the turn and will let the 1010 turn faster.

I tried out the new 1150 + ultra short fuse and 330 (370?) Tail, whatever the tail is it was the new tiny flat one, almost small enough for wind or kite foiling. We were just doing beach tow starts on the sup to try the flat water pumpability. Super fast for its size but i didnt like it much with an ultra short fuse, feels way too pitchy in the pump.

Does in the axis purple circle know if they will bring out a medium aspect wing like something that sits in between a HA & LA. Something that might carry across some of the benefits of both designs
