Nah mate, I must have the previous model as I have the smaller handle too not the bigger ledge type that's current. Lucky it's only 7'11 and not too heavy. The ledge type is in my bam bam and great to carry. Have fun.

Just had my first surf on the evoke, very happy! The extra litre's was key, had a few spills and one wave that linked up topped off the session beautifully!

Hang on a minute, I can buy a carbon Evoke 7 /11 for $700 ????? Does anyone have a weight for this size, I could get four of these for the price of a Starboard

Hey Rossall,

I don't have the 7' 11" but I've got the 8'10" carbon. I stepped on the scales holding the board and subtracted my weight to come in at 10.2kg. Not the lightest board on the market for it's size but I remember someone on the forum (possibly Tim or Jarrod) stating that a higher density core has been used?

Don't let the board weight deter you, with a good set of quad fins these boards don't mind bucking you off the back if you're not ready for the acceleration taking the drop.

Loving it

Just popped into the Surf Warehouse whilst travelling about the East Coat, must say I am impressed with the build quality and overall look of the boards. As usual after riding a Hokua x32 for two years I would of liked a bit more nose rocker but the Evoke seems to have plenty of tail rocker so might be ok. Need a test run,

Can anyone give some quick feedback on the 7/11 need to make a quick decision

Sorry phil, just saw your message. I rate them very much and have a read of my "review" on the first page. Solid as and turn great, very stable even for me at 95kgs. Good luck and you won't be disappointed. Cheers

I also had a look at these boards at the Mooloolaba shop on the weekend and must say for the price they are very hard to fault. More power to them I reckon for producing a quality product at a very affordable price.

In fact on inspection last week whilst on the east coast I would say the Evoke would standup if not surpass a lot of big name brands out there at the moment in terms of quality and construction regardless of the price.

And yes i brought one home to try

just had the first ride on the 7/11 Evoke and f*ck me I'm impressed. This little beauty rips, only been out in shoulder height waves up to now but it looks very promising indeed. Construction seems bomb proof, nice mix of nose and tail rocker, need yo upgrade the fins though. A small gathering of fellow SUP'eRs surrounded the board on the beach and couldn't believe the quality for the price, well for any price really, they all agreed its up there with any of the big names

Big up to Jarrod at Surf Warehouse for great customer service, sorted out the delivery and board arrived very well packed.

more soon

Good work Rossall and welcome to the club. I put a set of Lopez GL1 fins on my 7'11 and they work a treat. 2 mates of mine have bought the 9'4s in carbon as well and don't we look a treat all three walking down to the surf with the same boards. Probably think we're sponsored until they see us surf. We're all very happy with the boards still.

New 2016 model released on the stores' webpage. Looks good TSBWH guys! Is there any changes re shape etc from the last model?

I'd like to get a new one but I can't break my current one to justify spending the dollars. If you've improved the build on the current it will be unstoppable. Great board!!

Exactly phil, bit of a cosmetic change that looks pretty good too I reckon and they have also taken away a couple of the size choices. There was plenty of choices and still have a generous amount available.

Hey phil, I also picked up another set of gl1's from surf fx, thanks for the heads up re their special. I've changed my evoke to a thruster and going to give its first run like that on tues. Curious to see if there's any change as I've been using it as a quad for over a year.

I love it that the Evoke is getting so much positive feedback in the wake of plus $3000 boards from the big names. I could buy three for the same price of a Starboard and too be honest the locals that have tried by 7/11 are ordering Evokes. Getting out in all all sorts of WA conditions now and running a thruster setup with 7" centre fin, really drives the bottom turn with loads of grip.

keeps getting better

Thanks cse, glad it helped. Scary thing is I just bought a 7'2 bam bam too and I've only had one paddle on it so far but definitely felt the 14 litres or so less float and there was a crappy side chop on the day. I do love to be challenged and always hoping to relive my 20's short board days. So long as I stayed moving I stayed upright. Lots of advice from colas helps too. I went back to the 7'11 evoke on Thursday for a rest and I made the latest vertical drops on my backhand that I have made in 20 years. Had a ball!

Hi YT
Just wondering how the 7'2" Bam Bam compares with the 7'11" Evoke? I have read your other posts reference these two boards but would like a little more detail
There is a big difference in volume, 116L v 131.5L.
I am looking for a shorter beach break board under 8' and I am thinking the Evoke may be too much volume and the Bam Bam volume is more suited to what I want but it doesnt appear to have the parallel rails down to a wide tail, which would affect the stability while standing around but give great manoeuvrability
I am spoilt for choice with Naish Raptor's, JP Slates, Minion, Vanguards etc but the prices from the surfboard warehouse do look appealing compared to the rest.

Flying High, mate I can't compare the bam bam to any vanguard shape as I've never been on one but my thoughts compared to the 7'11 evoke are as follows.

I hover round 93-95 kgs (probably on the heavy side for the bam bam anyway) so during winter plus wettie on a side choppy day I did find it made you work. So long as you keep paddling no worries but if you wanted to stand still and wait, just keep your paddle in the water to help stabilise. I did find that on a choppy day I seemed to corkscrew a lot of takeoffs and bugger them up but I think I was pretty tired by then at the end of the session and not setting up properly.

Once on a wave it is a rocket!!!! Turns on a 2c piece and is really fun. I found at first it did yaw a bit while paddling but after my first session I seemed to fix that and can power around anywhere I want while paddling and actually helps if a great wave comes and you can turn 180 degrees in one stroke and another stroke and you're
away.

I've been concentrating mainly on my evoke lately and given the bam bam a rest until I loose some kgs or at least get rid of the wettie as I want to enjoy my surf and not get frustrated. Sounds funny but my relaxing easy board is a massive 7'11!

Don't be worried re the volume of the evoke as I use it in anything from 1-6' so far and never have a drama as it turns great too. If you are lighter than me definitely take a bam bam for a demo if you can. It's a great board and super responsive and if your round 80kgs would be a piece of piss, but I do like a challenge and was thinking of taking mine for another run this wed!

Good luck and hope that helps. If you think of anything else just ask. Cheers Whitey

Hi guys... Sorry for the delay in responses.. I became a dad for the second time last Friday and have also been trying to move 4567 boards into our new headquarters and showrrom in Tweed Heads. Yes we don't do things in halves :) As always I am so stoked to read all the positive reviews on one of my favourite designs. As usual I like to reflect on any constructive criticism from last years posts to improve my designs and hone in on our constructions.

The new 2016 Waterborn Evokes are different animals than last years boards especially in the brushed carbon models!! This year we have opted for PVC / Carbon Decks to reduce the weight in lamination and improve strength. This then allowed us to drop the weight of the blank tremendously while maintaining the overall strength of an already rigid board. If you are familiar with most of the big brands coming out of Thailand then you will know how amazing PVC is in an SUP. I kept the outline the same (why fix it if it's not broke) but I have greatly refined the leading edge of the rail on all 2016 evoke models as well as the rail through the fins. These changes have greatly improved drive and manoeuvrability and the new light weight carbon is a lot more flighty and alive under my feet now.

We will launch a new vid soon but the boards are in stores as of this week to check out. Have fun kids and thanks for helping me progress my boards :)

Hi Tim
How about an extra small size evoke (that is under 90 Litres etc..?:-) just make the 7'11" thinner & also maybe a 7'5" - I am sure you would sell quite a few ?:-)
thanks regards John :-)
